honestly, i don't play a lot of videogames so i mean
this doesn't really apply to me a whole LOT
however, when i buy a game, i spend a lot of time just exploring and generally looking at things. few examples are fallout 3, modern warfare 2, gta4, the saboteur, tomb raider (like 1-3), ico, sotc, etc etc etc
anything with a really open or detailed atmosphere really draws me in.

for me, play life and gameplay are most important. However, a game with graphics that look like they were drawn by Pikmin Awesomeness will not attract me in the first place, as graphics are normally the first thing you notice about a game. However, when you get past the graphics, i wont really care about how the game looks, unless something in-game makes me change my mind (eg colours become more vibrant etc.)
I think graphics are very important. Just not more important than gameplay.

good graphics can make me like a really lame game (muramasa: demon blade) and bad graphics can make me dislike a good game (assassin blue)
so yeah, they're as important as gameplay
Personally Graphics are what draw me in. I fucking loved Mad World's graphics, and as a bonus it was fun as hell. I just saw a commercial for the Lego Harry Potter game, and even if it was the funnest game ever made, which is the most unlikely thing to ever happen, but if it was, I wouldn't get it because the I found the graphics to be atrocious.
a good game contains gameplay, graphics, etc. in a balanced manner. Obviously, if you have awesome graphics and shit gameplay/shit graphics and awesome gameplay, the game's sales will be hurt invariably (by shit graphics, I mean 'graphics that doesn't match with the game's feel' rather than 'simple doodles').
So, graphic is really important for the games. It helps to set the mood of the game, it makes the characters charismatic, it makes the game to STAND OUT from others.

Well you see there's a difference between "graphics" and "visuals". "Graphics" simply describe how advanced the visuals can get. It's a technical term not an artistic one. "Visuals" is much broader, it can describe the artistic and the quality. Basically, how the game actually looks.
Basically graphics don't mean shit unless you got an artistic visualization in mind.
apparently all the lego games are very good, but i'll never play them

graphics as a extension of gameplay.
Well for me I honestly don't mind playing a game like Harvest Moon 64 during these HD jhsdgfkdbgf type of Graphics but I also don't mind playing Assassin's Creed or something like that.
I like good graphics but I take into account on what was good graphics for that time and I just roll with it. (Hell, I'll play Wolfenstien 3D sometiems still) However, if I think a game looks horrible I will not touch it mainly because if it looks horrible then the gameplay is also going to be horrible unless I hear different. If I do here different then I might give it a chance but it all depends.

Harvest Moon 64 is pleasant to look at tho and it has its own charm and a specific vision that it remains consistent and true to, that kind of thing matters 1000x more than having one-thousand-and-eighty vertical pixels
