First attempt at SNES Sparkster styled sprite
#16
Now that you mention it, it does resemble a sonic character, just over colored.

unless you though i was talking about your sprite (?) the pillowshading in sparkster armor is quite evident and the whole game's saturation is quite high, but never oversaturated. at least compared to its genesis counterpart where it just breathes black like many other genesis games.

not really trying to sound harsh, but that doesnt show anything useful or unique(or relevant) besides showing how they shaded a sprite(and they just shaded it as it had to be shaded, to an extent). maybe if you focused your analisis on how the characters where designed instead of how they were shaded that would make more sense in terms of achieving a "style".

and just like these two said, it does look like a tails edit for the same reason.

your character isn't Sparkster styled because your design doesn't correspond to Sparkster's sprites.

you emulated the techniques quite well, but the overall look doesn't scream 'Sparkster'.

I guess it's because your character doesnt look like it's from the game at all, try giving it a new look just for this.

Think of it this way, if you took one of the rotten fleshed, horribly mangled creatures from Castlevania, and sprited in in a Mario style, would it fit with the other happy cheerful sprites?

Sparkster's in-game habitants weren't barefooted and had soft, round shapes unlike of your angry-looking character.

Now THAT was uncalled for.

no, Metaru is right

You see, Even if he made a Sparkster using the game's palette, it still doesn't fit the game's style. Get it?

Making similar-styled sprites isn't just grabbing a furry character and painting them with the game's palette. You also need to emulate the designer's drawing style, and that's where most people fail to accomplish.

Hmm... I see.
As of right at the moment I'm currently reworking what was pointed out to me at MFS about the outline of the sprite since it didn't seem to fit the style either. However the design of this character isn't what I'm worried about. It's the shading that is.
Why? I'm going to be using this character as my main sprite.
Turns out its easier to sprite something that only has 16 colors than it is to have 32.
Oh and Turbo is a cat by the way. So that it clears up any confusion.

How's it look now?
I removed that dot on the eye as well. Decided it didn't really need to be there anyway.

It doesn't looks at all like something from a Sparkster game. For starters, your character is way bulkier than any official sprites (take a look at his arms and legs) and it still looks like a GBA Tails edit.
I suggest you to take a look at the ripped Sparkster game sprites found in the site's main page and study them so could applly the needed changes to your character: http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/sp...index.html
