You should feel more free to make bigger changes than you seem to

800x600 21" flat screen with crispy, non squished images like could happen if I had a Plasma monitor instead. So no, it's not my monitor's fault at all, Iceman.

I'm not avoiding crits., can you just explain a bit more?

And I knew I had to expect something like this, but I admit I didn't expected to get it right off the bat.

You put him in a COMPLETE 4/4 view. The only think that is close to 4/4 on Sonic: is his head, while you can still see his entire body and his torso is facing the camera almost completely.

@Maneko: I never changed the body shape at all.

I tried that with the body because VS suggested it

their heads are now indeed at the same angle, however...

(he looked fatter because eyes were farther apart=way of looking at him changes=optical illusions)

Oh, now I see it.

Mario's nose looks a bit too big as well. (It looks like a tomato glued to his face, actually)
How about if you examine Somari's sprites or these Genesis Mario hacks for visual references?

Its really not supposed to be Somari at all. Its just plain ol' Mario, but I'll try.

why do you insist on the same exact problem: you're trying to make a mario-looking sonic instead of making mario in sonic's 1 style.

what worked on the original sprite won't work on something thats not two balls and a bunch of noodle limbs.

That's kinda what we discussed on the first page with the proportions and all, but the reason I kept him fat/chubby and short is because that's the way Mario is. (Like you said.) Right now, its just the perspective issues.
But I guess this works for now?:

EDIT: I tried a smaller nose. It didn't work out and made his chin look terrible in the process.

I think you are confusing "Chubby" with "Fat".
Mario is chubby, Master Higgins is fat and your Mario is, as I already said many times, fat and shaped like an egg, which he shouldn't look like.

Then give an example of what you'd make it look like. So I can see what you mean.

This is your thread and these are your sprites. You do the edits, not me.
Not wanting to fix your mistakes for you doesn't means my point is invalid, as I've noticed you have been trying to from the beginning.

actually, go ahead maneko, show us an edit.

On an entirely different point, I think you shouldn't detail the soles of his shoes. My reasoning is that the extra detail gives his shoes unneeded attention compared with the relative lack of detail or texture on the rest of the sprite.
