Apparently, because of changes that were made to Dolphin, 3DVia grabs them from the memory instead of what's actually rendered.
In short, you don't need the posing codes, if what I'm hearing is correct. You also won't need to screw around with the FoV angle to get them simply close. It's more like what BRRes Viewer, BrawlBox or AiS puts out now.
Ah so that's what you mean. Well I guess for the most part that makes 3D Ripper DX obsolete for Dolphin, although I know 3D Via doesn't seem to work with some programs that 3D Ripper DX does. Still, I can at least say my SSBM rips are exact since I used the automatic FOV that 3D Ripper DX puts out if you use its Max import plugin.

But something I'd like to know is just how the hell did he manage to get it to rip the models?
I can't seem to get anything from 3DVia Printscreen. Is it because I'm using the 64-bit version?

Probably. As I said, I haven't used 3DVia in a while so I couldn't say, but 3D Ripper coughs up an error when you try to use it on the 64 bit version of Dolphin. I never did get 3DVia to work with even the 32 bit version of Dolphin if I recall correctly, but maybe you'll have better luck than me.
3DVia, plus Dolphin, plus Super Smash Bros. Melee =
They come out all glitched up, exactly the same way Sabretooth's old MDL0 exporter had exported Brawl's models (with everything being sucked towards the centre).
There goes that idea.

Yeah... Stuff looked like absolute hell.
I wonder what Melee does different with its models. Perhaps we need to see if export can be achieved instead.
I went and put up an image showing what I meant in my previous post.
Also, it seems that Brawl and Mario Sports Mix (out of curiosity, since the games have model exporters) have the models come out in the same fashion, and Mario Super Sluggers refuses to dump properly, often dumping only one model segment. Hrm.

Closest thing to that I've seen at the moment is this program. If the guy ends up finishing it, I have a feeling it'll be one of the best things for this out there, as well as a great tool for modding Brawl and perhaps even Melee.

What settings are you using to rip from Dolphin with 3DVia? I've tried the DX9 and OpenGL plugins on the 32 bit version of Dolphin and neither has worked. I suppose it could be my OS (Vista 64 Bit), but I don't really have any idea one way or another.

There's also a thread on the dolphin forums reviving the request for a model exporter.
They say that most of the functionality is already there, but I'm not sure how true it would be for all games.

I couldn't get it working on my brother's computer (64-bit Windows 7), but I could on mine (32-bit Windows XP, with Dolphin R5709 and the DirectX9 plugin).

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while,
@shadowth117: in order to rip from dolphin, you need a 32bit version of dolphin. Run 3dvia first, then run dolphin with the dx9 plugin. When you have the scene you want to rip, right click the 3dvia icon in your tool/notification bar, and select options. Click ok and DON'T CLICK ANYTHING AFTER YOU CLICK OK. Now hit the hot key to rip. Again in order to rip, you can't click or press anything but the hotkey after you click ok.
Now to everybody else, this program will work with 7 and a 64 bit os, but the 3dxml player will only work with a 32 bit os. This program will tpose models from the metroid prime 2 echoes logbook, when you look at them, and even pokemon from pokemon colosseum. Ill post some pics soon, when I post my battletanx rips. Another game that tposes models is goldeneye rogue agent. Note: in pokemon colosseum, most of the pokemon emerge out fine, but characters come out scrambled like in ssbm. The point is this ripper is quite valuable when it comes to some games. That space pirate model required no retexturing whatsoever, and had only one map. The pokemon I had to separate from one another because they were in the center, but they were scaled properly and a few even looked tposed. Again, ill post pics soon.

Sorry to double post, but I have some news for those of you who asked about the dolphin emulator's model exporter: I went ahead and created a new issue in their svn, and it was accepted, but set at a low priority. The issue is # 4240 for anyone interested.

for melee rips, use the viewer, or the converter.. also way back, I just ripped them m dolphin using 3dripperdx and the Tpose cheat code..
if you use 3dvia it may tpose the character, but if the model format is dependent on the skeleton matrix.. then it wont work. as the mesh will collapse form to the form it would be prior to when the bone matrix manipulates the mesh into a working Tpose.
sorry english bad....

Well, I managed to get at least something usable out of Melee, but it's nothing to write home about.
I got... wait for it...
The Unown forms. They were completely devoid of UV data (thanks to Blender's 3DXML importing being crap), and it took a few tries before I could get a decent number at once (it only created as many objects as I had textures on-screen, which was dumb, but I spammed food drops in debug mode), and then, the real kicker, all the eye pieces were fused together (really, WTH?), so it was tons of fun piecing them back together, but I finally got them decent enough for my own use, though not good enough to submit.
I don't wanna tackle a project like that again.

Just thought you guys would like to know, the last 32x revision of Dolphin that supported 3DVia is inbetween R 7127 and R 7168, and is most likely either R 7164 or R 7163. R 7128 32x can be directly downloaded from here.
