i'll prolly buy one of the future upgraded versions
considering everyone is bashing the 3D even before it was released already makes me think it wont be such a good idea to buy when it comes out

plus i dont like buying consoles as soon as they come out because who knows how many good games it will have

i was going to get one since i hadn't bough a gaming system since the dreamcast.

but they gave me a DSlite two months ago and i just can't see a good reason or a good game to make me bough it on day 1. or not wait and see what games get relased for it.

to be honest, the whole thing is just a huge gimmick, one thats either going to wear really fast or that its going to get outperformed by any handheld launched after it. its more hype than anything.

Well I am going to assume 3D is the next step in media entertainment. It was going to happen eventually but Nintendo kinda put it out there too early.

3D is a fad and a gimmick and nothing more

I hope it dies quickly

Every console has a "gimmick." That's obviously not all the console is, though, especially not this one. You can argue that they're jumping on the next-gen bandwagon late, but you can't argue that not only do the games look great, but they're ALSO portable. NGP is the only competitor so far for the next-gen graphics in portable format, and that's not releasing until at least next year.

If there were one reason to get a 3DS, it wouldn't be for the 3D-- it would be for the fact that it's actually next-gen.

I don't know about that. It's in its awkward stages right now but someday in the future all televisions may be in 3D.

It's the next step. I don't think we're anywhere near holograms being a regular item on the market.

HD and color TV was a fad and a gimmick too, amirite?

no, those were logical steps in the development of the television

the step after HD should be 4k, not 3D

especially considering that there are many people (me included) who can't see 3D very well (or at all), meaning that from a business standpoint, this is alienating tons of potential customers

i understand that they're pushing 3D because it's harder to pirate 3D stuff, but seriously, making it the new industry standard?
come on.

sorry but this is a really dumb comparision.

if anything, vipershark is right. whilist the 3D is in fact a gimmick (just like giromite sensors) we still have to wait and see if said gimmick is put on use for the benefit of gameplay -wich in the end is all that matters, besides the evident hardware update of the DSL/DSi the 3DS represents.

i'd hate to see it being wasted like the wii's motion feature was used by everyone, but barely a few titles benefit from it.

The Wii's shortcomings were not the fault of the hardware, they were the fault of third party developers for not taking advantage of the hardware's capabilities.
