that was my favorite level from the original game.

I remember no Starlight Zone, but then I didn't play the original game but one time or a couple.

I actually can't explain why I like or dislike things. Like, even my favorite games, I wouldn't be able to summarize, name the parts I like or dislike... I don't really get why. (I've only been able to identify certain themes I like after at least 2 years)

star light zone is my least favorite level from sonic 1 in both design and music

And I hope you realize "good taste" and criticism aren't there just to show off and get on each other about, you should be able to think deeper than "I like this because...I do!" When things are bad, they're not worth your money and you could be spending your time on better experiences. Yes, of course, the whole thing's subjective and people are going to have different opinions, but really, it's important to be able to recognize what's bad and be able to reason out to yourself what makes something good. Saying "I liked it" and "oh I didn't like it" and stopping there adds nothing to your character or understanding or thought process or...y'know, lots of things. Umm, why do I need to specify? I liked the unique gameplay style, the RPG battles, the different characters and abilities, the dialogue, pretty much everything. I liked it because I liked it... You guys (except Rokkan) never said why you liked the games you liked.

I loved Black Knight because I loved it. I just like the gameplay it had, the story was cool, I loved Caliburn, and the knights take was awesome.

I spend my time on experiences I enjoy (even playing the same game all the time). I'm not getting many new games because I can't find anything interesting lately anyway.

Arkinea thank you for that post.

Okay guys the horse is dead just leave it alone. This thread is about the new Sonic game not "look at me I have an opinion" so lets leave it at that.

Anyways, thinking about it I'm surprised I didn't mention this earlier but a Lava Reef remake would be amazing.

I have to sort of agree with this too.

Starlight Zone does have some pretty good level design much like the other zones, but it just looks bland due to its graphics, and also the music (it is pretty calming and doesn't have the strong percussions that other classic Sonic songs have) but also a bit due to its design too I guess.

But I do appreciate it because it mixes up elements from other zones - there is a slope that is exactly like Spring Yard's, there are loops from Green Hill, there are fireballs from Marble Zone, and there are Orbinauts from Labyrinth Zone, while still bringing elements of its own, like those Bomb badniks that are used pretty interestingly in it. It is a nice mix of slowness and speed and of pretty much everything you learned so far! So that you can take on the sadistic Scrap Brain.

Oh also I love how the classic design looks there. I prefer it to the Modern because... Pretty much everything from the Modern bugs me. How the belt of the shoe is so big, how the buckle also is, how the shoe isn't very pointy and is so round and thick, the bigger spikes on his head that makes it look like some sort of anime hair instead of actually spikes, how the spikes on his back are so small, making it not look like continuations of the spikes on his head but rather some sort of useless thing on his back, the douchey "nike" smile instead of a simple smile or his usual "lack of patience" look, his bean-shaped nose and torso, the anime-ish green eyes, the lanky tall body... Luckily recently they did a slight redesign took away some of these elements or made them be less apparent, but I'd still take the classic design over any day. Mostly because it looks cuter and less anime-ish and douche smile :V

TBH I have to disagree about the Classic style. I just prefer the modern look, and I like that expression of his, with the colored jewel eyes. Sure I like Classic too, it's cute and charming, but I just kinda prefer new Sonic.

But anyway... I'd want Ocean Palace back, if just for the unbelievably awesome song, and I really liked SA's Casinopolis with the pinball and NiGHTS mini games. Something like THAT would be pretty neat.

Oh oh oh and Pyramid Cave. That level owned in every way.

Sonic's smile does tend to get weird and his quills look extremely stupid when when he's falling (what, do they have joints now?) and such other things you mentioned, but classic...I don't know. I didn't think of Sonic as cute mickey mouse guy when I was a kid, he was always Mr. Cool and Cocky. He looks like the former to me here. Plus his proportions seem really strange to me in 3D... I don't like EITHER model, really! (neversatisfiedsonicfans) If we're talking purely about designs regardless of their 3D models I'd probably say I like classic Sonic better, but for the sake of 3D, I've seen better from modern.

I feel the need to clarify only because people missed the point but I'll keep it short: I wasn't saying "you must explain your reasonings for liking things every time," I was saying "don't get upset or feel attacked when people try to explain their differing opinions and then will them to stop because of it" as in post #135

I guess if we want to talk about it any further than that we have to take it to PM or something

Well... you didn't really make that obvious in your post, but...

Anyway other levels I loved was Metal Harbor and Crazy Gadget. No, I'm not totally knowledgeable on the Classic series sorry everybody. Tongue I know I need to play more someday.

There wasn't in development any official Sonic game that would follow the comics, really!!! And I say thank god because the comic is even more confusing than trying to decipher Shadow the Hedgehog's story without disregarding important plot points about it in Sonic Adventure 2.

Silly Rokkan the current Comics Speedway ro Archie aren't THAT confusing not any more so than Dark Horse, DC, or Marvel comic.

If Sonic Chronicles had been Archie Comic based story Produced by Bioware on the 3DS or PSP it might have actually been a decent attempt. I say that loosely since Sonic Chronicles would need a good amount of production time to actually be worth anything of play.

On a more Sonic to Sonic fan note do you feel SEGA is being too...I don't even know if I have a correct word for this let's go with uptight about the music from the first 2 games? SHOULD they pay the royalties every time someone decides nostalgic music would make upcoming release game better?

I dunno, I like the discussion here. If we were to talk only about the teaser here, it'd would be just boring baseless speculation like there is on Retro because everything else on that thread is banned.

See, what I like about the classic design is that he's sort of... Pikachu. In Pokemon, the original mascot for it was going to be Clefairy, because it's a really cute pokemon that appeals the japanese audience very well. But they also had to appeal to the american audience, so they picked Pikachu instead, because not only it had the cute appeal for the japanese, but it also has that angered/wild attitude about it that would appeal the american kids. See, that's how I feel about Classic Sonic: It's cute but it also has that attitude to it, that lack of patience and a bit of edgyness. (hence why the concept of Shadow was absolutely retarded from start, you don't need an edgy counterpart of Sonic, Sonic in its concept WAS supposed to be an edgy mascot!) Modern Sonic is too "correct" and smiling to me. I think I might associate Modern Sonic too much with that parent-trying-too-hard-to-be-hip attitude of Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog - and the smile really doesn't help me take that image away :V

who says that Marvel and DC always have good stories :V

On this case, of course they will and should pay the royalities (Green Hill just ain't no Green Hill without its tune, as well as any other memorable Sonic zone), but I'd prefer good original songs over re-arrangements. Sure, a re-interpretation/re-arrangement of a good song is always great, but SEGA has some really great composers that shouldn't go to waste. Fumie Kumatani, Mariko Nanba, Takenobu Mitsuyoshi... Just to list a few!

Who says a story is something you always enjoy all the way through? Some parts are hard to bear but a story seems incomplete without those difficult to stomach progressions. I agree though not everything about Archie Comics should/can be used that's why there's the magic of retcon and different dimensions or just inspirations.

Is Hideki Naganuma still at SEGA? or was he just a freelancer producer/DJ?

Mj, i think you should go and play all the first three sonics a couple of times, experience them and study them seeing how you are pretty much the resident sonic fangirl, i dont see why you wouldn't like them. and even if you don't i would really broad you vision as how the games have develop since then.

also Sonic 3D gives me headaches and i cant play it past the second stage. true story.

Well I have played the old games a good bit, just not as much as everyone else, so I don't have that "Sonic nerd knowledge" for lack of better term.

I do really like the Sonic series, and I really absolutely love some of the games like the Adventures, and stuff.

I understand if you guys don't like Chronicles but I just enjoyed it. Like how you guys enjoy some games not many others like. I was rather fond of some of the music. I guess you could say I'm kind of easily amused sometimes, but again just opinions.

Say Fuchikoma what levels would you like to see remade?
