Organizing TUGS
What GrooveMan said. If this drags on too long it will be less interesting.
I manage an emulation project called Chip16, check it out!
Peace!

I can see what you mean now. There are quite a few similarities between the silhouette assignment and the drawing assignment. I'll get rid of the drawing assignment.

Which challenges are you thinking of? All of them? At this point in time I wouldn't mind you being more specific on the standard challenges you had in mind.

Okay, so from tomorrow, the 30th of June, to the 20th of July, you have to post your finished entries in the following thread.

Well, in the last challenges you were given definite material to work from. Actual pixel art. Applying a palette to a bunch of squares isn't a good judge of how to choose colors. I can't think of anyone who makes a palette before they actually make line art for a sprite. The palette reflects how you intend to shade/color a figure and it's hard to make that aspect abstract.

The silhouette challenge is a cool idea, but the silhouette is far too crowded and blocky. Using actual curves and shapes would be far better suited to this.

The lineart challenge makes no sense. All I see are a bunch of randomly placed pixels. It's not line"art" because there is no "art". An actual figure would be far better.

All in all I'd prefer the format of last year's TUGS with just switched out pixel art and a new figure for the drawing aspect of the challenge.

You do realize that the "challenge" he put up was just a sample to make sure he had the sentences and format clear, right? He wasn't going to put up the actual challenge until the deadline.

you have about nine judges that would help you with that btw
they help with judging, they can't create threads and they're not organizing TUGS.

Kaikimi: Alex is perfectly right, I didn't want to spoil what you had to do until tomorrow.

Since I did the TUGS last year and I definitely improved my spriting skills, I'd like to participate if it isn't too late.

Oh man i'm so nervous right now, i got butterflies, but i'll be damned if i'm not really excited for tommorow either, i'm wondering however if you're going to just sticky those TUGS topics? ( or if it's even necessary make a temporary sub-forum for this TUGS?)

Doesn't matter about a head start, if you submit your work first you don't have any extra points. Take your time.

So wait, because I'm lazy, are we starting tomorrow? Or

im not going to spoil what youre going to be doing but im posting this so i can make the sentences clearer and fix up anything before i post the real thing.

I like these ideas. Bab did point out that the last challenge differs from the previous three. The problem however is that giving instructions is a risky thing; and giving clear instructions is tougher than it sounds. For example, with the instructions on #3, I just assume I have to "connect the dots" in my head and picture a fully-connected line art. But is that the aim? On #2, you say that the shape cannot to altered. However, since the shape is squary, most people will break the rule.

As I said in the very beginning, tasks that focus mainly on pixeling, are the most effective ones.
But I can fully agree, you obviously do need drawing skills to make it far, Wink

Those aren't the real things Ouch!
