Glitch needs some help with not sucking.
#16
I looked back over what useable sprites I have of him, being only the one you edited to show me how to fix it, and the one where he just stands there. I hate the standing one, and don't think I can edit my current pose without looking at yours constantly, and basically nearly copying the whole thing, which is no good at all, so I'm going to try a whole new pose and see what I can do with it. May take a while. :/

Copying is already a good start, and part of the learning process: it's probably because you don't feel comfortable about doing it more independantly.
You can do several versions: the one you'd do now would look most like mine, but after a few breaks and attempts, I think you'll get it.

Hello glitch, you have an account on MG as well right? Well, i like the jedi. Will it be okay if I request that you possibly do it in the JUS style?

Yeah, I'm the same glitch from MG.
The Jedi started out at the top as a (rather poor) JUS, or at least he was supposed to be. But it looked awful. But Gors is right, I'm not here to take requests or I would say so. So no, I'm afraid I won't be able to do that.
Aaaaaaaaand I've been out all day, and made no progress on the new pose. I'll try to start tomorrow. I still kind of feel like ending up copying your (Chris2balls') example would be like cheating on a test.

Your pose is a it tricky with that back arm and the looseness of the sleeve, but i think it should be well hidden enough by other areas of the sprite (like the arm in the foreground) to be able to cheat a bit here. I didnt draw on top of your sprite i sort of had to sketch a new post that was similar to yours, and it seems that you already have some good comments in this thread but perhaps this may come as a useful reference for you as well.

One important note i did want to point out is the light saber. to get that glowy vibrant effect, start with a white core and a darker, saturated color of your choice, and AA the outside color to the white smoothly. If you were to animate this you can flicker how thick the stroke is or how thick the white core is to make it look pulsing or throbbing.

Also i can very much sympathize with any troubles on hooded capes you may be having, i know theyre tough to visualize and tough to get 'right'. The shading on the face is definitely an important part of the illusion, and do note that when you have very dark eyes or absent eyes, it tends to make a hooded person look more mysterious.

Thanks, that's pretty helpful. : D I'll make sure to keep this in mind.
I'm beginning to dislike what I've done to start the guy off so in his new pose he'll probably be a lot smaller, and with a slight design change.
I've noticed that both you and Chris did that with the lightsaber, so I can't forget that, and I'll try to give him a nice mysterious hood effect. : D
All of you are so helpful~

So here's my WIP for now, I intended for him to have a pose similar to both Obi-Wan and Darth Vader in their fight in a new hope. Just a simple holding the lightsaber forward, basically. I think I made the legs a bit different than I wanted, but I kind of like the way they turned out, so I may end up having the lightsaber closer to the body than further out.
Before I continue I wanted to know how it looked so far, if I should end up fixing something now or if you just want me to keep doing what I'm doing.
For some reason I keep making the Jedi thicker than I want, and his pants puffier. :/
The left I'm going to be using for reference when I end up shading so I know where the tunic dips.
If all goes well it'll be to the arms, then to finish it up.

Nobody had said anything yet, so I just went ahead and tried the arms. I think the cloak should include the sleeves, so they're brown.
How am I doing so far? Anything I should fix?

the pose doesnt really look as natural as one would like it to be. an useful trick i often use to understand how would a pose work and if it could be made is to perform it by yourself inf ront of a mirror. that way you can get a mental image on hoe your does your body behaves on that pose and how comfortable and/or natural would it be.

Hmm. I see what you mean. I'll try to give him a more grounded stance then, and while I'm at it I can thin out his legs. Thanks for pointing it out before I got too far. : )

Do these legs look more natural? Is the anatomy okay?
I have a bit of trouble with feet poses.
EDIT: focus on the legs on the right, I don't plan on using the left set. I can tell they look awkward.

The dark dark red hole is used for reference, that's where his arm goes. I looked at some more reference pictures and the less dark red lines are the seperation of cloths that are on most other jedi robes. Im bad at explaining. But it should make sense later. Then next to it is without those lines to show shape better.
Is his upper body too small? Thats my main concern right now because I cant tell. :/
Would someone please tell me if the size is okay? And any other criticism is welcomed.
