Street Fighter X tekken.
#46
Yeah finally someone is talking about Pac-Man! Now all I need is for him to be playable in the next Smash Bros sans the wooden Tekken fighter.

Going to derail this topic a bit just so you all know Megaman has kind of been a dying franchise since the NES games.

Here's a sort of accurate timeline that focuses on the main games more than anything else.
>First game comes out, known for difficulty
>Second game, okay it's the same game but different masters and more levels that's a step up right?
>Next four to six games in the normal series just added on abilities you "needed" and a dog, a fucking dog.
>Megman X comes out sometime before (after?) Megaman 7. Now we're talking about a real sequel since it actually improves what was wrong with the original series, now Megaman becomes a massive franchise and X gets about 3 more sequels (or so we think.)
>Just when you thought it was going to end, CAPCOM LITTERALLY SUBJECTS THEMSELVES TO THE FANS and we get four more fucking sequels. hence why X started dying as a series. Next attempt was to bring Legends out and oh boy, only two games and a canceled sequel. At least they had the dignity not to shit all over this one right?
>Megaman is brought to the gba, but heres a twist. Instead of fucking one new series we get two. Zero and Battle Network. Zero was actually good for the megaman series because again, it improves upon X like X did to the Original, except the sequels actually didn't suck because it was one huge story all together. Battle network tried to take the franchise to a different route and while it may have garnered new fans, it became shit.
>Now the DS is out and lets release ZX and Starforce. I'm not even going to go there aside from the little touch screen controls they had). oh and remakes on the PSP that turned out to be a flop financially.
>Just when you thought they were done with the original series they brought out 9 and 10. Oh goodie! lets jizz ourselves because capcom decides to go back to megaman's roots.
>Now to bury the franchise, lets come out WITH A MASSIVE GAME CALLED UNIVERSE, IT HAS RYU FUCK YEAH WHAT COULD GO... oh wait canceled OMG LEGENDS IS GETTING A THIRD TITLE ON 3DS oh wait canceled again fuck dude I think capcom finally is done with this since the creator left.

if this doesn't point out the pattern capcom made I don't know what will. they dug their own grave for the franchise so I don't know why people are complaining so much ignoring the stupidity of people and fanboys out there.

why can't we just talk about how shitty the actual game is probably going to be

there is nothing less interesting than a bunch of people whining about people who whine about megaman for two pages

I would like this. I played it at the last PAX and... it wasn't anything too amazing. Just felt like SFIV (which I hate for how clunky it feels) with some Tekken dudes unexcitingly put in there. Not to mention I really don't like the style they're going for in the game, it just seems ugly (and when I think about that, Megaman's okay because he totally fits the ugly aesthetic).

I will say I'm a lot more interested in Tekken x Street Fighter since I've always liked Tekken's fighting system better (the only Street Fighter games I really like are the Alpha games). Also it'll be interesting to see how Street Fighter characters work in it, since it seems easy to fit Tekken guys into Street Fighter but doing the reverse seems like a tighter fit.

Oh and yeah, kinda wish Pac-Man wasn't riding Mokujin, but whatever, wasn't planning on buying this game anyway!

that's kind of a valid point and i definitely felt that when i played it at new york comic con

but even without playing it there's a pretty strong list of surface level negatives: the gems system, two completely unnecessary "comeback" mechanics, the lazy combos that are bafflingly easy to pull off, the lopsided console exclusive offerings (i don't play on 360 but are you fucking kidding me five sony exclusive characters)

it honestly feels like they're trying to squeeze out the worst possible game that people will still pay money for, there are occasionally little moments like seeing Shitty Mega Man or hearing about online training mode and the MK9-style tag battles that make the game interesting but they're drowned out by horrible fucking decisions

(01-28-2012, 12:13 AM)a babyass man Wrote: the gems system,
exactly what is bad about the gem system? it affects minor stat boosts to slightly tweak your character to what you prefer. if you don't like it, there's an option to not use gems. i could understand if you were required to have a gem set and disliked minor changes, but you've got the option to not use them. it's not like SF4 where you're forced to have an ultra and its an essential mechanic in that game since it deals big damage off an easy combo - but what do attack gems do? slight percentage boosts? some of which require pandora? the pre-order gems would be concerning but they supposedly take up 2 gem slots, so you're looking at a trade off that could easily not be in your favor. it's not the level of customization we'd thought would exist in SFxT, i agree with that, but i'd think if they were testing new customization mechanics they wouldn't want to overload it at first. we don't even know what kind of gems will be released down the line, or the other ones that are in the game already.

but yeah, they basically do next to nothing and don't affect footsies; the only one that comes close is the speed gem because it also affects jump speed. so just stock up on speed gems if you really want to enhance your footsies.

the only complaint i have about gems is that they make your character the color of the gems while they're activated which just looks ugly.

Quote: two completely unnecessary "comeback" mechanics,
two? pandora and ... uh... idk the pandora gems? i agree that pandora is useless, but it doesnt really change the main game. if someone is stupid enough to use pandora raw then they deserve to lose. you won, good job. the only trouble im seeing was the demo of SFxT where they used Ryu's EX Donkey Kick, pandora'd and then could follow up after with a combo. that's concerning....

Quote: the lazy combos that are bafflingly easy to pull off,
MVC3? MVC3. lazy combos are easy to do and require no execution. are they the best combos to use? nope!

Quote:the lopsided console exclusive offerings (i don't play on 360 but are you fucking kidding me five sony exclusive characters)
yeah this part is kind of concerning but we dont really know why there's 5 characters on the ps3/vita version and none on 360. maybe there is and we dont know yet? maybe microsoft doesnt want them using their characters in this game? who knows.

all in all, most complaints about SFxT are because we don't actually know what half the shit will do. we don't know if gems are overpowered or if pandora is becoming a literal x-factor. once people test the gem build and the pandora-off-wall-bounce build, then we'll have complaints that could be legitimate. otherwise it's just "oh... these... could be bad?".

you have every right to not like the game, i can completely see that being the case for a lot of the FGC. unfortunately, most of them just want SF2 Version 500 which is really concerning. without change we wouldn't have EVO Moment #37. some change ends up not being good - but you cant really say one way or another until you put your hands on the game. i could speculate all day that the gems wont do anything major but are still neat to have in the game, you could speculate all day that they're useless or over-powering. but that's all it is. speculation. we don't know.

i think we'd all be better off just waiting to get the gem build before we freak the fuck out over every little thing. maybe the gems will be more fun than we think. whooooo knowwwwwssssss?

also, tellis:

Quote:I will say I'm a lot more interested in Tekken x Street Fighter since I've always liked Tekken's fighting system better

this is why you dont like it. SFxT is very clearly more for people who like the SF fighting system better, unfortunately. as much as they made the Tekken guys similar to how they would play in Tekken, it's still in a 2d realm and there's still things that are significantly different in terms of gameplay (there's fireballs, for one). this is probably the most legitimate reason to not like SFxT, tbh.

I never noticed before how Bad Box Art Mega Man has that crooked top of his helmet. It's awesome how much they paid attention to every bad detail of his design.
