cactuar/cactaur has different spellings in the games...it's a translation thing.
also so sorry seirra but I can't rig the blue dragon...sorry. it's bipedal. maybe after I level up my rigging skills after I rig all of the skyrim dragons.
I can rig the ruby dragon for sure!
you know there is a chocobo in parasite eve? (there is also a parasite eve movie aparently...it was made LONG before the games...so does that make parasite eve a movie based video game?)
ther is a chocobo skeliton in parasite eve as well but unfortunaly it's part of the prerendered background..so the model is lost to the sands of digital time and space.........when did they stop useing prerendered backgrounds? was in FF9 or FFX?

Ooh, you're right; it *is* supposed to be spelled with the "u" first. I'll get the corrected version up tomorrow.

No problem about the blue dragon; I'll get to it eventually. I've got the Doctor and Alucard on the list first, but then the FFVIII dragons can be next. Or maybe Yojimbo. Oh, and there's Lulu's dolls, but they're gonna be fast; I'll probably do them *before* the Doctor, in fact.
That's weird that there'd be a chocobo in Parasite Eve. Must've been a throw-away gag or something? (Not that that seems like the kind of game that should have gags in it, but...maybe inside joke would be a better word.)
Yeah, the Parasite Eve movie is based on a book. The games are actually sequels to the book/movie. Or something. I dunno; my brother bought the movie at an anime con quite a long time ago, and he looked into all that stuff at the time, but forgotten most of the details of what he told me. (Lately, if he says anything about the Parasite Eve franchise, it's to rant about what a betrayal The Third Birthday is, so I try to avoid the topic...)
FFX was when they stopped using pre-rendered backgrounds. Well, in the Final Fantasy series, anyway. Xenogears, for example, had 3D backgrounds much earlier, but that's entirely different. (And going back to it now, moving the camera around those backgrounds feels really primitive...camera movement mechanics have improved since then...) I rather miss the pre-rendered backgrounds; they looked a lot better. But on the other hand, they limited the interactivity with the locale, so...I guess I can't blame them for wanting to switch. I'd love to be able to rip the background renders from FFVIII and IX, but I have no idea how, unfortunately.

but cactuar has more then one spelling.
(the chocobo skeliton is inside a natural history exibit, and a picture of a chocobo is on a banner outside, you don't really notice unless you know what you are looking for)
it's a shame there arnt more things you could rip out of these classic games 3D wise.
The commonly accepted spelling is Cactuar. Loving the stuff you're doing!

I figure the best thing to do on the spelling is to match the game's spelling, even if it's patently wrong (happens from time to time) so I checked the strategy guide for FFVIII, and it was indeed Cactuar in this one. (In VI, it was Cactrot. At least, on the PSX, it was...) So, here's the new icon:
Anyway, I've ripped the next set, but I haven't prepared the icons and preview images yet. I need some advice about the names on two of them, though. The first is for this model here:
As you may (or may not) remember, this model belongs both to the recurring boss Biggs, and to the standard enemy that was "Elite Soldier" of the Galbadian army. (Although I think NCO probably would be a more accurate description, but Elite Soldier is what the guide called them...) So...since the model is identical, should I submit it as Biggs, or as Elite Soldier? It would seem silly to submit it both ways... (The same will apply to Wedge when I get to him, since his model is also used for the standard Galbadian troops.)
The second one I need help with is a little trickier. Regarding this fellow here:
These guys were in service to the Garden Master NORG--what a pain he's gonna be, by the way, being four models in one--but you never actually fought them. They appeared in combat, summoned a monster to fight you, and then left. Consequently, they're not listed in the strategy guide, and I no longer remember precisely what they were called. Does anyone remember? I ripped them under the name Garden Staff, but I'm fairly sure that's not accurate... Any ideas?

For the first guy, I'd say go with "Elite Soldier". As for the second guy, no clue. If they were ever named in the game, it might help to watch someone's Let's Play of the game in hopes of spotting the name in the dialogue.

they are garden faculty. which confuzed the hell out of me when i played...because they are all over the campus and then suddingly they all started acting like they had just raided the place and were trying to take everyone down.......because earlier in the game before you leave for the fire cavern all of them are either security guards, truency officers. pretty much deans or teachers of some sort that scold squall about being late and stuff like that.
call em biggs because that is who he is. bigs wedge and jessie are also in final fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts 2
I'd go for the generic term, or even Elite Soldier / Biggs.
And they are called Garden Faculty. (Check 7:45 here )

"Garden Faculty," huh? Well, there's my case in point about the translation being flat-out wrong. Those guys were *not* teachers. I remember some of the teachers (aside from Quistis, that is) and they dressed like normal people. But if the game mistranslated them as faculty, then I'll go with that.
I like "Elite Soldier/Biggs" as the way to deal with the other. I hope it'll fit. Actually, I'm pretty sure that one will, but I'll have to see if Wedge's will work that way. If it won't, I'll have to do something else; they should be consistent...
They start as faculty. One takes Zell's hoverboard away near the very beginning of the game.

yah....they were really confuzing. the school is all about training SeeDs but then when they go crazy it's like they had...OH
OMG
i think i know what happened.
perhaps the school was raided by soldiers who killed the garden faculty and disguised as them?
that would explain for the violent transition from mildly aggrivated educational worker to insane militaristic opperative.
if they went postal on the students it would have been more crazy but this was too planned. it had to have been a raid. like the old dump the bodies in the janitor's closet and wear there clothes.
They worked for NORG and when NORG made his power play they sided with him. That simple.

Well, it took me too long for how few models there are, but the new batch is finally ready.
First, a set of GFs that you have to fight before you can summon them.
Then a mere two standard enemies.
Then we have the two complex fellows I posted about earlier. In regards to Biggs/Elite Soldier, I ended up going with just calling him Biggs, because in looking more carefully through the strategy guide, I realized that there were at least *three* different names for the common enemies represented by this model. So I decided to go with the repeat-boss, Biggs, since he's the one people are likely to remember.
As to the Garden Faculty, the only thing complicated remaining is how the heck to classify the guy. You never actually fight them, so it doesn't seem right to call them enemies or bosses, but it sees silly to create an NPC section just for one model. I have no idea how to proceed on that...
Who knows when I'll get the next batch ready. I can't concentrate on anything lately. When I was making the icons and previews, I typoed on preview three times. Uggghh....
Great stuff.
And don't drive yourself crazy. Take some time, then come back when you're ready to do more.
