Admittedly, they do have a lot of new looking power-ups.
ALTHOUGH, there are PRE-EXISTING power-ups that serve the same purpose, so that point is moot. WELP!!!

I don't even care anymore, it's more levels for me to play, I'm fine with that. I guess that's the feel that most God of War, Call of Duty, etc fans have too. It's more of the same to enjoy, by not changing a winning team.

I'm actually a bit thankful that they continue games but only change a few things from time to time (Don't get me wrong, I love when a huge change is made as well), because honestly, there have been games that I've played and loved that never got a chance at a sequel, and to this day I wish they had so I could simply enjoy more of what I loved back then, so I'm happy to simply get what is more or less the same Mario in new levels from time to time.

This doesn't have to be true. You still have to collect 100 coins to get an extra life, while in NSMB1 you could grab a Mega Mushroom (not even a back-up) in the first level and race to the flag and get 5 1-up Mushrooms as destruction bonus.
It depends on how rare and hard-to-get the 1-up Mushrooms are here.

I think that the SMB games being similar to the old ones isn't really that bad. They've barely changed since the original SMB, and they're still fun. A game doesn't have to change to be better than it's predecessors: it just has to stay interesting to the majority of the players. If you're not in that majority then tough cheese.
Furthermore, what if they had changed it majorly? What would they have to change? Gameplay? Well then, it wouldn't be a SMB game then, would it? You shouldn't expect something completely different between two games with similar titles.
The only thing that they shouldn't have done is keep those same animations. A bit of effort to make those a bit different would have been interesting.
You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down. -Mary Pickford

I really don't see the harm of reused animations. Like it's going to hinder me during gameplay when I start to notice that I may have seen that walk-cycle before.
The fact that you can fly now (Propellor Suit does not count) does change a lot. What mysteries lies above the screen? Vertical exploration not limited to platforms, etc. adds potential secrets.

It's beautiful! At least in my opinion.

You know what would make the coin-heavy concept interesting? If the game had a shop system or something that allowed you to buy things, or for example you need a certain number of coins to open certain routes.
Either that or you're just gonna have a shit-load of one-ups at all times.

I was thinking about that, the coins can't be just for the sake of having a lot of coins, there must be a catch or something.
Edit: Wait a second, Nintendo Network logo on top right, this could mean something for online play!

From Nintendo's E3 site:
"The game records all the coins players collect throughout the game, so completing a level is only part of the fun."

So basically this is going to be a more competitive NSMB while NSMBU is going to be a more social NSMB.
both seem fine by me.

Not me.
I hope they also think about the multiplayer experience on the 3DS instead of just the Wii U, and bring back the single player co-op mode from New Super Mario Bros's beta stage. Am I the only one who was extremely disappointed to learn that the amazing idea from the beta media had been replaced with five sad levels of "starmen tea-bagging"?

Uh, didn't they announce single player co-op like NSMBWii on the 3DS conference? I'm pretty sure they did

They did indeed announce it, and they put up pictures of it.

Dammit, if it's just the Koopa Kids again, I don't know... Well, at least it's better than just rehashing two Boom Booms along with occasional Bowser battles like in 3D Land.
... Who am I kidding, I still thought even those were fun.
