TSR PIXELART COMPO VOL. 1: STEAL THIS SPRITE (8/5 - 8/12)
#91
that's still a ridiculously stiff pose compared to the rest of the gundams in that game, it doesn't have any weight or bounce to it.
using only the darkest colors on the head also draw away form the rest of the sprite, and make it look softer in comparison.

Also there's some weight issues here and there. Thinking realistically I think the arms would be too tiny to even do anything (such as holding a grappling weapon), and the "head" being too large that it would actually topple over if it ever walked. Try looking at some super robots/megazords/transformable robots for examples and see how they handled the weight balancing issue when using an animal head for chest armor.

Alright, last time for sure, except for the "for sure" part

and a comparison

So I made changes to the face, left arm, general clothing, and the skirt. Augh that skirt.
I feel like I've hit my limit skill-wise with this thing, I am really out of my element with all
of this AA and shading. I think I'm pretty much done with this, unless anyone has any
suggestions on how to fix that damn skirt.

Alright, got the animation starter (raita's normal form), then comes the fun part of making the animation of him transforming and becoming Nu-Ta (in the dialogue, he explains that was pretty lazy while coming up with a name for his alter-ego). With the follow up of him beating up some bad guys.

Also, I hate spriting pants

Final WIP

I'll try an have it finished by saturday

But I can only choose 1 which will it be???????

Also @ Sevenstitch
Like what you did with the skirt but the face I dunno, if your going for a low detail face then you captured it seeing how small the face is on the sprite. I feel like the hair could be bigger though IMO.

I know you worked a bit on the face, adding a bit more detail to the eyes, but I don't think you've worked on detailing it enough. If you notice on the small reference sprite, her face is a bit chubby, and her nose protrudes a bit from the face. On yours, I can't tell if she has a lower jaw, and her nose is non-existent. Most of this stems from the anatomy issue of her upper-body. It's a great dynamic pose, but try lower your head like that and see how the neck muscles react. To be honest, her head and neck seems positioned too far towards her left shoulder.

Sorry I can't offer anything on the skirt, I'm still crap at shading clothing, hahah. I really like this though, you've put some good work into this and it shows. Keep at it if you feel up to it.

he still hasn't worked on the anatomy in the one spot it's most glaringly off, though.

I wouldn't really know about pose; I haven't played the game. The only two ripped on here have similar hunched over, bent arm idle poses. The only difference I really noticed is that they have slightly bent knees. Well, I guess Epyon's idle animation has him flexing his arm to move the whip. I'm not sure if this is just me missing something obvious, but I'll make another pose. I agree with the darkest color thing though, I was going to put another set of arms on the body (which was why it was supposed to be a bit darker), but got lazy, so it ended up looking really weird.

...It's Gon. His head is supposed to basically be the same size as of the rest of his body, and his arms don't extend past his jaw, making them pretty much useless. As far as animal head chests go, it's not really the same. They tend to just make a box shape and stick an animal head on the end. Also, if you're going to bring in realism, even better proportioned robots would technically collapse in on themselves if they tried to move.

Alright, this is honestly starting to tick me off a bit.

The face is driving me crazy. I just cannot seem to cram a whole face into that little portion
of space. Moving the head and giving cheeks seems to have made it worse. She went from
a cute minimal face to bulldog real fast.

Mr. Skeleton, your somewhat vague critique has left me a little confused. I assume your problem
is with the left knee? In any case, I changed it anyway.

Thanked by:
her entire bottom half makes very little sense, her left leg is too short, the knee is at a strange place, even considering perspective. if you were to straighten out her leg at it's current proportion, it would be too short and the knee would almost be right below the skirt but only on that leg. what ruins the perspective the most is the fact that even though the skirt has 'depth' in accordance to shading, it's not playing against her knee even though it's apparently being forced outward

I kind of figured the problem was everything. It's all so simple now. I'm gonna have to scrap the whole bottom.

ppbbbbbbbbbbhhhhhhh

Alright, that sucks. That's alright though. That's why I'm here anyway; To improve. I'll keep working on this,
and post when I figure this out.

Thanks for pointing all this out, It helps

Oh my God, that Gon is awesome!

EDIT:
Didn't notice the page 7, so sorry for the late post. I blame my timezone.

Also, I haven't been working on my entry as I didn't have access to the appropriate PC all this time. My bro keeps hogging it :/
At least I have a head. That's something.

Sevenstitch, the old face was a lot better IMO.
Sorry I keep filling this thread with posts guys.

I've tried changing the left leg and skirt again.

I guess my understanding of anatomy really isn't that strong; that legs still look strange to me.
I changed the face a tad this time again, I don't really know how to get any more definition in that
small of a space.

@Sevenstitch: I dont know if this'll help much, but try mirroring the image; when you stare at something the same way for a long time you get used to all the mistakes, but a different perspective might help!
