yeah, sony closed psygnosis, as well as a bunch of shitty news that happened today. it's really awful to see it go, but it seems like we'll hopefully have a videogame crash in the next few years.

Hopefully, because an industry crash and mass unemployment is good for everyone
only the indie will survive as much as I want to see a mindset change in this stagnant industry, a crash would be a terrible thing for everyone

Sony creates an entire studio for Sony Brawl but closes down one of longest standing studios... It just doesn't make sense!
Those glorious PS1 days are seeming more distant than ever... Thanked by: Gaia

or maybe
or maybe a crash is exactly what we need, so big companies could see that what they're doing isn't very effective and does nothing to further videogames respectably at all

Innovation is much needed they need to rethink how they run things.

Plus, if there was a crash, there'd be a lull in new games and I'd have a chance to catch up on all the old ones I still haven't played!
But seriously though, I feel like a crash isn't the only way to move away from the stagnation the industry seems to have gotten itself stuck in. I mean, it'd certainly do the job (probably) but it would also really really suck. "Viva la revolucion" isn't always the only option.

it's just the only option that makes any sense
even indie developers are becoming really awful and shortsighted
A crash could lead to better games, yeah. But I would really rather not have one. Hell look at all mess with Atari during the last crash. These are people's jobs.
Not to mention if a crash did happen you'd be sitting around for 3 years and just hoping someone reboots the whole thing and I kind of doubt something along the awesomeness of the NES will come rolling out. Technology has slowed down, you wouldn't get the same kind of big jump (unless VR was the next thing). Having 3 main leading platforms also makes it very unlikely. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all stepping out of the video-game industry is highly unlikely, not to mention that the PC is pretty much "safe" without big developers. No longer need to buy a Vita

I don't even actively look for these things.

I notice that they mention using the Kickstarter money to pay themselves and their team a salary... isn't that not the point?
