RIP Nintendo Power

When I was a kid I just assumed Wario was his evil twin, so I don't think it's too hard to understand why people think they are related. Of course this idea has long since been dropped (around the time Wario Land II came out).
I think Nintendo have confirmed they're not related, though I could be wrong (as in more likely wrong). Nintendo also denies Mario's last name is Mario though, and well if it's the Mario Brothers then it IS Mario. Oh and in Yoshi's Island on the SNES Mario and Luigi are twins (was 'corrected' on the GBA to brothers). - My point is, if I indeed do have a point, is that even Nintendo doesn't seem to know what they're doing half the time anyway. Hence why I look forward to the English release of that Hyrule book to see all the glaring continuity errors Nintendo has failed to take into account.

If Nintendo cared at all about consistency and sense, they wouldn't have a million different LoZ universes. OoT, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, you can't tell me that these three games take place in the same universe.

I'm sadden by this news, but it's to be expected. With the internet, who needs gaming news magazines anymore? I've had two subscription stents with Nintendo Power over my lifetime, but I stopped subscribing to Nintendo Power all together when Future transitioned Nintendo Power to be a strictly gaming news magazine.
I would have gladly kept my subscription going to the end if they had kept gaming strategies in the mix in addition to the game news. Before the internet came nationwide, early Nintendo Powers were like mini-player's guides showing you stuff from every game and showing you some tips and tricks to help your gaming out. Sometimes some issues of NP came with little bonuses like preview VHS tapes. I still have the tapes of Donkey Kong Country, Nintendo 64, Star Fox 64, and Diddy Kong Racing (N64). I need to copy those to DVD format sometime. People are still interested in the DKC series. If they weren't why would they have released Donkey Kong Country Returns? As for me not liking them, well if they made these comments once or twice I would ignore it, but nope they had to hate on Diddy and the Kremlings any chance they could. That being: Virtual Console review on the trilogy Diddy Kong in Brawl Even the DKCR I wouldn't mind if they had a legitimate reason for their mockery. But it simply boils down to these characters not being a part of "Lord Miyamoto's" original vision of DK. I used to love NP growing up, but I'd rather it be dead than be run by those guys.

Making fun of Diddy/other characters isn't making fun of the DKC series. When you said DKC series I thought you meant the first 3 games themselves. Making fun of the first 3 games now would be like printing a new Steve Irwin joke every month (don't take that the wrong way as I LOVED Steve Irwin and was massively upset when he died but hopefully you get the point). My point is very few people really care about DKC 1-3 now days and jokes about them would just fall flat. And well, lot of people poke fun at Diddy. I get disagreeing with them, but wanting something to fail seems a bit harsh. I never liked EGM because they seemed to base the review score on "What number would create the most talk" (and that is a lot more serious than a bit of character mockery) but I never wanted to see them fail.

About Zelda:
According to Nintendo there's three timelines, or "universes."
Jeez, I thought the Mega Man metaseries had a messy continuity.
@Krieven: He was the only Kong to give K. Rool a solid boot to the backside (and had a nice theme in DK64 to "boot", I liked that military-style personality of him)! About the G-Diffuser thing, they could be just a fancy name for an engine part. I usually thought that if them arwings are built like X-Wing fighters in Star Wars, then there's nothing to worry about because of their airtight compartments, which would explain why they didin't melt on Solar as soon as they reached the surface of Lylat's sun. I also remember the Mega Man contests Nintendo Power held alongside the japanese contest, too bad I never participated though, would've been fun to actually fight my own boss design!

Geomar just because a game is old doesn't mean people don't care about it.
I'm sure you couldn't use that same analogy with Super Mario Bros. could you?

Oh so you're not joking?
Ok then. I hope you realize that hating an entire magazine just because they poked fun at a series you like is an incredibly dumb reason to hate a magazine. I never really read NP for the ratings, because they could only really compare games to other nintendo games, causing a convoluted rating system. the articles were interesting and it was always nice knowing about games i've never heard of. still sad to see that they are discontinuing the magazine though.

Its sad to see, but it really is a testament to the power of online media. Im studying journalism and this is the way of the future. Next to go will be newspapers.

Also in that case I'd better finish OoT, maybe I can make some sense of this then. Although I still don't know where the GBC games (the Oracles and Link's Awakening) and the Minish Cap come into this. People care about it (but no where near as much as the SMB series) but well, it would be like making fun of those little Jumping Ninja-Thingies in SMB 2 every issue. Making fun of a series that old, EVERY issue, just doesn't seem possible. And, as I said, I thought you meant those 3 games and not the DKC Universe. But still I have to agree with [scrolls up] Money Man, that hating a magazine for poking fun at something you like seems incredibly silly. I love Metal Slug (to the point of spending £80+ on a damn Fio model) but if a magazine poked fun at it or said something I disagreed with (aka free-lance writer for Retro Gamer who said Metal Slug 3 was the worse one in the series) I'd think it was a big of dick thing to say (and if it REALLY annoyed me complain on the forum/write a letter to them) but I wouldn't hate them for it. Hate implies that if the person said it while sitting next to you you'd punch them/shout at them until they cried. And well if you would do that then don't ever get into debates or anything. There's a translated time-line from the book on-line if you want to look at it. It still doesn't make sense and there is NO WAY Nintendo had this planned from the start. |
