You don't need one. I don't use one. Just don't use the Circle/Line tools.

Merged the topic into the other one. One should be enough, really.

That's one very helpful comment.

jakobthecool867, did you read the Spriting Dictionary recolorme linked to? Check the "Jagged Lines" part specifically and try to make a circle without the circle tool. Try to get some clean lines done, then work your way up to more complex structures. Work with pixels, not with shape tools!

another reason why it isn't so good is that its in JPG format. so you are going to have to start all over.

try reading the spriters dictionary for help: http://www.spriters-resource.com/communi...?tid=13868

i dont have a fancy little graphics tablet.

i don't have a "fancy" graphics tablet either. most people don't, actually.

not having a tablet doesnt mean you can't do better on the actual sprite. no need to make an excuse for that.

You... are kinda missing the point here. For spriting, a mouse will do quite fine. I used a mouse making these sprites, but don't expect they were done in a mere minute or so. Time varies between 4 to 8 hours of work (or in Mammoth Mogul's case, 3 friggin' days!). Aside from the time spent, I also have years of spriting experience under my belt.

Don't use your lack of experience as an excuse to only make 20-seconds-circle-tool art. Study. Practice a lot, that also includes drawing. Sounds stupid? It's not! If you can't draw, you can't sprite. Don't get it the wrong way; it's not drawing lines with a mouse, but rather dotting them, one or few pixels at a time. So why draw? To get a better understanding of how shapes work. May sound confusing at first, but it'll make sense as you practice. Again, it took me years to reach the level I'm at now.

Take a quick look at this.

This is literally a five minute custom goomba sprite. I used MS paint to make it, just now.
It isn't the greatest sprite, but it is set far apart from yours for several reasons..

The most noticeable would be that it isn't a "drawing," it is a "Sprite." Sprites use pixels,
and every pixel must be placed with care, so that they are used to their full potential.

Your, well, drawing, it isn't a sprite. It lacks very basic form. If you hadn't told me it was
a crying goomba, I don't think that I would have figured out what it was. You should use
reference images so that you have the basic form in mind before spriting it.

Sorry if I seem like a jerk. I don't mean to put my stuff in your thread, but i thought that
a visual might help.

It's not about being best here, (well aside from the competition threads) It's all about
learning and becoming better at spiriting, and art in general. Watch, learn, and most of
all, practice, because that's really all it takes. I've only been spriting seriously for the last
6 months myself, but a decent foundation in drawing and art certainly helps.

A few things,

Did you look at what A Moon Cleft looks like?
Look at how its shaped, look at the colors, look at the size and the spikes

Make it look more like that design,

your designs shape is way too tall, and the spikes dont make any sense and the boots are barely visible.

Try focusing on a limited pallette { Limited Colors } make a different colour for the boot, and another one for the spikes...

Your shading and lightsource need some work since we cant understand where the light is coming from. It seems pillowshaded

Also dont you dont have to make a new thread for something like this, just post it in the other thread you made Smile

Im dont usually give c+c, so im not sure if that was good critic or not, but eh hope this helps
