Sonic R Character Models!
#1
I just joined today, and that's for a rather good reason; I have succeeded in ripping .OBJ models of the character in Sonic R. (Wasn't easy either; had to write the exporter myself. I'm not going to take credit for figuring out the models, though. That was the work of the people on Sonic Retro.) Don't believe me? Have a look:

The only reason I haven't uploaded these yet is because I'm still working out a bug in the exporter where the edges of textures aren't cleanly cut, like in the first Sonic picture especially. I think the problem is that the textures are 256x256, but the OBJ format only allows me to define texture coordinates as a fraction of 1. Any of you know how to fix that? (Also there seems to be an entirely unrelated bug where some textures, like the top of Tails' eyes and Tails Doll's nose don't have the correct textures for whatever reason.)

Good job ripping! Is Amy permanently attached to her car in her model? Also, will you rip the stages as well?

I've always liked these super polygonal models in this game and Fighters. Nice work!

Yeah, Amy's body is fused with the car. Darn shame. There might be some leftovers elsewhere in the game, but I haven't found them.

Also I'm trying to rip the stages, but I still have to figure out the format they're in. I've got a good chunk of it figured out, but I'm still nowhere near complete.

Awesome job, dude! Interestingly enough, Sonic's model here doesn't look that far off from his Sonic World model. The only immediate differences seem to be his hands and how he's shaded in-game; aside from that and being generally lower poly, they're pretty similar.

Kinda reminds me of how Smash Bros Mario and Mario 64 Mario are more or less the same model, just with the former chopped up quite a bit.

cool! Did you ever fix the texture issue?

If he did, you wouldn't have had to bump this thread. Please mind the date on the post before yours.
