LilotheStitch, please avoid one word replies. Only reply if you really have something important to say in a discussion.
This is a verbal warning, so don't do this again.
Also Koopaul, you're ridiculous. Anything is 'Donkey Kong this' and 'Donkey Kong that'. Shut up, Sakurai doesn't owe anything to anyone except making the game, there isn't some magical 'IP balancing app' that automatically divides the numbers of references between Nintendo franchises. As harsh as this sounds, Sakurai doesn't need to represent a franchise more than the other just because the other got a stage, or a song. The game is his anyway. What does one word reply mean?

When you make a post with only a single word.
Your posts need to have some value, something of substance, some actual content to chew on.

Ugh, I hate when posts get off-topic like this especially when we're talking about something good.

The forum's very first rule (1.1) actually covers this point.

Single-word posts, short sentence posts, blankposting, and/or quoting a previous post with no additional content added by yourself are generally frowned upon. Don't just post to say "XD" or "lol". Fuck the rules, I have Hyrule Warriors.
I wish my three year old brother wouldn't hijack my Wii U to play The LEGO Movie Videogame...
EDIT: Beh, wrong topic.
But meh, SSB3DS.
I do find it a bit disappointing it's really easy to unlock everything. I mean, sure, I love that I now have everyone, but, less than two days is pretty, eh.
Also, I can't play Cruel Smash for shit.

Since when did I say I wanted DK to have priority over Mario or Zelda? All I asked for was SOMETHING. One new character, maybe a stage. No. All we got from DK was Kritters in Smash Run. Is one stage or a character asking for too much?

WHAT? I mean seriously, WHAT? How do I even begin... Again, WHAT?! Where are you getting the idea that Nintendo doesn't care about that IP anymore? No seriously. Where? How? Where? Is DKCR / Tropical Freeze nothing? Is the fact that they feature Rare's Kongs and Animal buddies mean nothing? The fact that many Donkey Kong characters have even appeared in Mario spinoff games mean nothing? Like seriously where are you getting the impression that they don't care about Rare's IP?
If you don't come up with a good answer then I'm going to assume you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Especially since Nintendo owns everything in the DKC trilogy, there are no licensing problems at all.

Um. Again where are you getting this information? Did you know that DKCR sold three times as much as Skyward Sword did? Did you know that Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D sold more than Kid Icarus: Uprising did?
Get your facts straight. Nintendo cares about Donkey Kong's characters, the console Donkey Kong outsold the Zelda console game and the handheld Donkey Kong game outsold the Kid Icarus game.
I understand that Donkey Kong is insignificant in your mind. You don't care at all. I don't give a rats ass about Fire Emblem, but at least I know how important it is to Nintendo and did my research on it. The least you could do is some research on Donkey Kong before making such claims.

I will say it's pretty bullshit that we got female Marth and original character do not steel dark pit before we got K. Rool

Actually, you heavily implied that you wanted it to have priority over Kirby, which you conveniently left out there.

Anyway, I just looked up the sales figures for DKCR and you're correct about it outselling SS and KI:U (though I'd like to see current day sales figures since the ones I found were from 2011) so that's a fair point on your end and I'll leave you alone about it.

To be honest I see Kirby and Donkey Kong as equals and should get the same amount of content in Smash.
But that quote was about how something that is iconic for Donkey Kong is being used for another franchise that could have used a ton of other iconic things. Minecarts and barrels are to Donkey Kong what ? Blocks and Pipes are to Mario.

Cool man, tell me more about how modelling, making textures, reanimating, hiring voice actors and balancing them so they aren't cheap is effortless

Lucina and Doc are the only ones that need extensive model work, but even then they were originally alt costumes according to that Famitsu column Sakurai wrote. It was just a matter of making those costume models as new characters. It wasn't effortless, but it was content they already had to work with. (So basically, the modeling work could be compared to the Alph costume)
As for Dark Pit, he's just a simple texture edit of normal Pit-- His face is edited a tad, but it's pretty minor. So getting their models was easy.
Lucina for one reuses a lot of Marth's animations, not sure about the others.
Balancing their movesets is where the hardest work comes in, I agree. That's the meat of making these clone characters.
So in short, the three clones were simpler, last-minute additions. I don't think their addition hurt the roster any, so I welcome their inclusion. (despite my dismay for them at first) Were they effortless? nah. But they were easier than other newcomers by a long shot.

It would be very easy for them to consolidate Lucina as an alternate skin for Marth, but since there are some meta-game differences, whatever.
While I'm a bit the side that doesn't care about Fire Emblem (and that there shouldn't be as many FE characters as there are) I suppose it makes sense on the company's half that one of their popular IPs gets a little acknowledgement. And honestly, I thought that having 3 starfox characters in brawl was too much, but other people were happy about it. You'd be hard-pressed to find a stance about the roster that everyone can agree with, but that's just the way opinions are.
I'm just glad that the game is out and people are able to enjoy it, regardless of if I feel a certain character slot could have been better to cater to my needs (such as removing Lucario and putting Mewtwo or Blastoise/Venusaur in instead) I'm just glad that Duck Hunt, Pacman, Mega Man, and Lil' Mac are in the game and that they look fun to play as. (I don't have a 3Ds or Wii U, so it's gonna be quite some time till I play the new smash)
WHile i was kind of annoyed that Ice Climbers were returning in Brawl, I'm actually kind of let-down that they aren't back this time around, probably because I heard that they were having some trouble making them work on the 3DS (but I don't know how true that is)

"Effortless" may be hyperbolating a bit but he does have a point. The reason why clones are created is because it's easier for them to add several to the roster at the last minute when they wouldn't have time to create a whole new character from scratch. At least that's been the reason with Melee and Brawl, it's easy to assume the same is true here.
Still I wouldn't dare call DK and Kirby equal in the eyes of the Smash developers. Remember who it is that is calling all the shots and how significant the Kirby franchise is for him.
I know that it is easier to make a clone character, this is a fact: but to call it effortless, considering development time, deadlines, all the research and asset making, is really dumb. Characters dont appear in-game magically, there needs to be work to make them happen.
Also removing a clone character wouldnt magically leave a spot for another, i believe. Clones exist to add more characters while recicling some data; they wouldnt bother coding a character from zero.
