I like how Nintendo was all "Oh no, we won't Achievements because we don't have to rely on the gimmicks of others."
And then promptly included Achievement-like things in a handful of games.

Achievement-like ain't not no achievement.

They've been doing this since Kirby Air Ride. 2. Challenges, while completed similarly to Achievements, are purely in-game and provide in-game rewards as opposed to "gamer score". Good lord, that online lag is uuuuuunsightly. It was almost like I was playing Brawl all over again.

Keep in mind though that MK8 and SSB4 are made by two completely different developers, and since HAL/Sora has been known to make laggy-as-fuck online modes, that's why I'm fearing about the Wii U version's online.

I think it all just depends on your connection and your opponent's connection. For a lot of my matches online there was no lag at all.

Each of these challenges actually awards you with a prize when you complete them. "Achievements" don't give you anything but bragging rights. I much prefer actual unlockable prizes over achievements. Anyone know how to beat that 100 hit combo in practice challenge? The best I did was 81 by using the X-Bomb, Smart Bomb, and Samus' Final Smash, and I can't seem to go higher than that.

Three smart bombs behind your enemy, then throw one right at your opponent from the front. With luck they'll be pushed back into each bomb, but it might take a few tries.

I just increased the damage percentage to 999%, grabbed the enemy and wailed on him as fast as I could. Playing as Fox I got an easy combo of 120.

I got over 400 hit combo hits using Lucario and the Spirit Train stage, just push a character to the front of the train under the boiler and just keep using the energy ball.

Alternative method!
Go to training, set damage to 999, and pummel them forever. When they escape, make sure to be by a ledge for them to grab, and time your grab before they can land when returning to the platform. Have fun, I got 600+ this way. Oh, and use Lucario! |
