TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|SWITCH HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING
Guys, I honestly hope you're all subscribed to GAMEXPLAIN. Andre and co have tons of inside goodies and info about the game, and have kept me well updated on all the stuff. Andre himself and a few other luckies got to actually play the Wii U game for about 3 hours.

They also really love to break things no one would usually notice down.

Honestly, this is just stupid. It's like everyone has to bash the 3DS version just because we didn't get a few characters that could have been playable. Just because technical limitations of the 3DS meant that we couldn't have Ice Climbers, Ridley, or whomever else because of it is just dumb.

I get that Ridley was a huge request to be a playable character but at the same time, the quality of the game is what matters in the long run. In this case it's two full games that create an expanded game over all.
How does having two games expand anything? Everything except Smash Run is in the Wii U version plus more. Besides Smash Run (which could have been on the Wii U too) what did 3DS give us that the Wii U couldn't?

What? What does that even mean?

(10-24-2014, 02:08 PM)Fool in the Sky of Diamonds Wrote: Would you want to have a completely laggy game with a shit ton of features in comparison to a game that plays smoothly and is able to deliver the same enjoyment at the sake of some small things that are cut out from both versions?
That's exactly why having a 3DS version was a bad idea. Don't make the game on a system that can't handle everything that needs to be on there. If Sakurai just worked on a Wii U game we would have a shit ton of features AND a game that plays smoothly. WIN WIN. Nothing would have to be cut, nothing would have to be sacrificed. How is that hard to understand?

(10-24-2014, 02:08 PM)Fool in the Sky of Diamonds Wrote: I'd rather see some content cut out of the game than have to play a game that constantly slows down all the time.

But it wouldn't slow down because the 3DS version wouldn't exist! DUH! If we didn't have a 3DS version the only thing that would be sacrificed is... it's not portable, boohoo. If there was no 3DS version we'd have everything they worked on for two games on ONE game that also runs smoothly, has the Ice Climbers, and possibly more!

The 3DS version was a bad idea. Nothing about it helped. What's so cool about splitting the content between two games and holding back on potentially more?

Pretty much all that was held back officially was the Ice Climbers. Otherwise, you pretty much could have expected whatever content that was exclusive to the 3DS version on the Wii U version if it didn't exist. It's not like there would be 10 new characters and stages if the 3DS version was gone.

Maybe it would. Without having to dedicate time on two games, he could have had more time to add even more stuff.

Also with the power of the Wii U and not having to worry about the 3DS, Sakurai could have potentially come up with many more character ideas that couldn't be possible on the 3DS. He had to restrain is creativity due to the system's limitation.

Of course I'm just assuming things. None of this is really known. I'm just speaking about the potential. Wii U version could have had potentially more.

Koops, you're ignoring the fact that if there wasn't the 3DS version, we wouldn't even be having a discussion over Smash 4 right now. Sakurai wanted to make a portable Smash, Nintendo had to beg him to make the Wii U one. I mean, portable Smash is a pretty big frickin deal. And I'll say it again, the Ice Climbers getting cut was a good thing. I know you're gung-ho about them because they're an old series, but the fact you don't hate the fuckers shows that you have obviously never played against a good Ice Climbers. If you had, you'd hate them.

Yeah...
I'm just gonna have to pop in and say this is a moot point, considering grabs have a 1 second in-between delay in Smash 4.

That's not what I heard. I heard Nintendo asked him what system he wanted to make a new Smash on and he said both.

Anyway it still doesn't change the fact that a 3DS Smash was a bad idea. Even if there wasn't a Wii U version I'd still complain... probably even more! A fourth generation Smash game needs the proper power. And I still don't see the "big frickin deal" of a portable Smash. Smash is not a game I want to play on a bus ride, it's a game I want to play in a room full of my buds and a box of pizza. As much as tourney people hate to hear it, Smash really is a good party game.

As for Ice Climbers... I don't care about them myself, but many others do. They've been in two games already and that's a good enough reason to keep them around. I mostly bring up the Ice Climbers as proof that a 3DS game was holding Sakurai back on making an even better Smash game. Something that I always worried about.

How is "Ice Climbers were broken" even an argument when one of Sm4sh's selling points is balancing?

More so, why is it bad to include a character that is just for casual fun?

Well whatever. Sakurai has his priorities and I don't agree with them. If we had Ridley and a new Donkey Kong character, you wouldn't hear a peep from me. That's all I needed.

The problem isn't the portable version, it's that he wanted both at the same time with mostly the same assets.

this post is a post on progress because of quoting system and phones

I'm sure they'd be okay in Smash 4. But 2 games of chain grabby bullshit can lead to a bit of resentment. (Also tongue in cheek, come on guys)

Wasn't an argument, was more stating a relevant opinion. Also, people like to play competively, too.  I mean, they're a decent chunk. Shouldn't their concerns be valid aswell, even if Sakurai tries to stiff them as much as he can?

No one gives a shit of you say Smash is a good party game. Most people completely acknowledge the fact that it's a great game to fuck around with a group of buddies. However, the fact that the term has been used a lot as an insult to try to detract from Smash's competiveness is what makes a lot of people sour over the term

What I never get(I do actually get why, I just wanted to point this out)  is why people don't bring up Squirtle or Ivysaur when mentioning the 3DS holding back Smash. The poor boys never seen to get any sympathy.

Again, this goes back to the whole DLC thing. If sakurai, namco, sora, and nintendo really wanted to they could have made Ridley and another DK character into DLC. Which isn't a bad thing at all.

And far as metagame goes:

Quote:Metagaming is any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Another definition refers to the game universe outside of the game itself.

In simple terms, it is the use of out-of-game information or resources to affect one's in-game decision

Basically, meta gaming is a form of gaming that can affect how you can really push the games farther in terms of gameplay. This was something that has been common in super smash bros since melee came out (How else would we know about wave dashing?)

My point in bringing that up is that with both games, there is alot of potential to push the metagaming really far if the player chooses to do so and if he has both games. I mean shit you have amibo and the inter-connectivity between both games so I find it hard to believe that there's no way this can't be done. I'm not sure how but once both games are out I'm pretty positive several gamers will find several things that can make the gameplay experience all the more enjoyable.

This of course is just in theory, but in most cases I've seen may people come up with new ways to play the game outside of it's rules. So it wouldn't surprise me if somehow players found a way to use both games to their advantage. And it seems like that's what Sakurai wants players to do even if he doesn't say it directly.

You know, have fun playing it and all. I'm pretty sure these people do not play the game because it they aren't enjoying themselves.

I think people are underestimated the value/content of what the Wii U version has.

Event battles were almost if not more fun than the adventure mode at times. Was I the only one that cheered (well to myself, silently) when they announced they were back? I was disappointed the 3DS didn't have them.

I mean, where ELSE do you get some of the uneven or silly balance tweaks like you get in some event battles. (Really they should have the ability to make those in custom rule battles)

throw in another few modes that smell of... smash the roguelike...

And you easily had more than enough content to equal, if not surpass, smash run.
Christianity is my faith not my religion. And neither should be pushed upon people.
