This is like the whole "Sonic doesn't have green eyes" thing. I mean really, coloured buttons? Coloured buttons? How good must your life be where coloured buttons are an actual issue. I'm tired and going to bed, good night...
+ The SNES and 360 controller are just as colourful - like I think they have the exact same amount of colours on them.

I actually prefer colored buttons as well.
I think the 360 has the correct color to button layout while the SNES and Dreamcast have really odd choices.
I got used to Playstation's color choices but for years I didn't like that Square was pink instead of yellow.

I just hope that the shoulder buttons can handle a bit more. I play games that use the shoulder buttons alot and so far the DS systems I owned gave out rather quickly.

It's not an "actual issue". Wowsers. I don't know where I complained that the world was an awful place because the controllers weren't as colorful anymore. Why is it that every statement has to be framed against this backdrop of "life"? "How privileged your life must be if you choose to complain about the bad physics in Shadow the Hedgehog."
No. Fuck that. I'm talking about video games on a video game forum in a thread where the topic is video games. I did not walk into a current events board and complain about controller colors. Heck, I was hardly even complaining, just more "Hey dog, I miss when everything wasn't sleek black and white. Oh well."
Also, they do have the same amount of colors (although the SNES controller itself has colored regions), but the 360 is also a larger controller with more components. That makes it seem less colorful than the SNES controller, because the color/button ratio is different.
Other observation: all the controllers I see as being more "colorful" used gray as their base color instead of black or white, so maybe that's why they seem to have more color in general?

I've never had that problem with any of the handhelds with L and R buttons o.o.

I really get focused when playing and don't realise how hard I press those things. That and I have a strong grip so I sometimes I dont know my own strength. ~_~

I think you are just a little nostalgia blind. Most systems have some sort of basic grey, white or black (white and black being the most common these days), and MOST systems still have colored buttons (Nintendo having the least colorful these days).
The reasoning is probably two reasons: colors COULD cost more to manufacture (probably not by much), and also when you are catering to as wide an audience as possible, it is safer to go with a very neutral approach. People will usually go for colors of controllers that come out later that appeal to their tastes without having a color they may dislike forced on them (which sucks if you hate grey, white and black)
The most colorful system by far was the GameCube. The systems themselves came in a large variety of colors, and the controllers matched their systems and were available in equal variety. Mostly I've seen purple or black systems though.
I forget the point I was trying to make. I: oh well

Gamecube came in black, platinum, indigo, "spice", and white. If theres more I haven't seen em.
N64 has way more console color variants, I'm pretty sure it was the most colorful console.

One of my looooooooong-term future goals as far as videogame collecting goes is to own all of the color variations of the N64. Seeing that picture makes me drool.

A: It's wrong.
But if it were true, I'd say cancelling preorders is the wrong way to go about it. Purchasing limits should have been in place from the start if they wanted to avoid a situation like this (it's not like purchasing limits are new... they've existed for decades specifically to hurt scalpers).

It'd suck if I wanted a Monster Hunter 4 New 3DS, but couldn't because I had to pre-order one in advance for my friend who'll pay me later. The site I'll get it from won't likely do that and I have no need for any New 3DS model, but if it were the case. On the other side, it's a pretty moot point if scalping prevented me from doing this in the first place.

Such an odd workaround. Why couldn't it just work out of the box, Nintendo >-<.

Because it's not a Nintendo approved method, it's an exploit. One that will probably be eventually dealt with in a future firmware update, so I wouldn't waste my money importing games that would depend on this method to play if I were you.
