Just so you guys know, the Gen 4 and 5 Games were already 3D too. Modeled buildings and such. The only thing that wasn't 3D were the battle scenes and characters, but yeah. They only looked Mode 7ish because the DS's 3D really isn't the best thing in the world...it's only slightly better than N64 or PS1 graphics, lol.

The mother of BW's hero explicitly mentions going on a journey of her own, and the mother of BW2's hero used to work at a Pokemon Center and even remarks on knowing the BW hero's mom, iirc. And Johanna, the Gen IV mom, even has her own Pokemon whom she enters into Master Rank Pokemon Contests! Like, she actually LEAVES THE HOUSE.
Heck, even Gen II mum bought you stuff from time to time...
She kept buying me berries when I needed dolls though.
Man, its weird thinking that they used to just be "berries" and not much else.

Yeah okay but "some buildings that are reused over and over and a few unique ones, along with a few environmental things, maybe a Pokemon model or two for a special story cutscene" is waaaay less 3D work than "literally everything except menus".

I would say that development time was almost certainly affected by it being a fully 3D game, which is something that Game Freak had never done before! (keep in mind, Pokemon Stadium,Colosseum and Battle Revolution were all handled by different developers)
There was defintely a lot of experienced hands from Creatures Inc on the Pokemon modelling team, including Pokémon 3-D Modeling Art Director Atsuko Ujiie (Lead Modeling and Animation on Battle Revolution and worked on models for Pokemon Stadium 1!), Pokémon Character Modeling Lead Shunsuke Uematsu (Pokepark 'Graphics' / Field Modelling) and Pokémon Character Motion Lead Masataka Hata (Pokemon Motions on Pokepark 2). A fair few of rest of the modellers and animators from the Pokepark games are present as well.
Which is, not surprising to get models and animations out for all 700+ creatures in a reasonable timeframe.
I don't think Smash Bros or Monhun have the high triangle counts of XY per character, though? (or don't try to shove up to six on screen at once) At least, I think they're good enough you could easily use them for another generation of consoles with just improved shaders and texture quality. Maybe then single battles will be smooth in 3D.

Nah too flat. It needs to be set in New England, my home. It's got the best dsiplay of seasons in America.

Nah too New York. They'd never base a Pokemon game in that general region. /s

New York? Compared to all of New England?
Ever been to those states?

Its a joke man. I actually find the idea very interesting, though it seems odd for them to make something based on the whole area as opposed to individual spots.

I don't think they will add a new pokemon just for Z, unless they do it Gale of Darkness style where Munchlax and Bonsly were there but cameo only. They always show off a new gen pokemon before releasing the next gen, like they did with Togepi, Lucario, etc.
Will they add all the megas from ORAS? Sure
Battle Frontier even? Maybe
I really hope Z fixes Kalos the way Platinum fixed Sinnoh...

That thing ... is really really dumb looking.
Also it looks like it was cobbled together using parts from other pokemon. The head alone looks like they disassembled some poor Klink.

Hear, hear!
I really hope they up the challenge in Z, at least to compensate for all the user friendly and anti grinding mechanics they added in X&Y. I mean, seriously, they give you a region's worth of potential party members (and then some!), an improved Exp. Share, a pair of skates, another starter, and already having Pokemon Amie and Super Training available from the get go, all of that before facing the second Gym Leader. With as much early game preparation such as this, you'd think the rest of your journey would knee deep complex, balls to the wall hard, right?
Cue the second Gym leader having only two Pokemons.
