I think a bigger head would make it look really great. Keep up the good work!

Made head bigger also improved trunk

Hey, ilovescratchcie! Wanted to give you some feedback on your sprites here.
I'll start off by saying that he doesn't look much like an elephant and takes more after a rat in the face. This is due to the trunk not having much form and the ears being pretty unreadable. Try giving the trunk a more curved shape. Reference the official model more closely and key in on the shapes that are present and think about how you can convey that in a 2D space. The hat is also blending in with the head, which I'm fairly certain it's not supposed to do. I'd also suggest revisiting your linework on the body as it looks a little blocky. Feel free to make the body even chubbier but smooth out those edges a bit. I think this is a good start! Reply if you have any concerns. : >

Hi ilovescratchie!
I have some more feedback if you don't mind! Suggestion #1: I think it looks pretty good but the inside of the ear is the same color as the cap and the outside (grey) of the ear is too small; it looks like he has no ear and the cap just has a cape behind it. Suggestion #1 fix: I would suggest changing the inside of the ear to a different color or generously extending the grey part to almost surround the inside of the ear. Suggestion #2: It looks as if he's missing a second ear as according to the ear that is facing the camera it should stick out over his hat. Suggestion #2 fix: Just add a few pixels of the ear on the left. I've made a rough example of what the sprite would look like with the changes (you do not need to do these). (Example 1 is with the different ear color, Example 2 is with the extended outside of the ear.) Thanked by: ilovescratchcie

If I may I would like to offer some feedback.
The biggest problem you have with the sprites are that you're trying to add too much detail on sprites that are smaller than what Elephant Mario should be. The Big Mario sprite from SMW is probably not going to cut it to edit in the details for elephant Mario. HOWEVER, It is possible to make Elephant Mario in the style of Super Mario World. However, this may mean that you'll have to find one of it's larger sprites and use that as a reference for what the width and height of the sprite would work best to get as much details in for Elephant Mario to work. However, this would mean that you have to make a rough drawing from scratch and then build up the rest of the sprites from there. It's not the most pleasant thing to hear to start over, however sometimes it's a necessary thing instead of frustrating yourself sticking to the same thing and not getting anywhere with it. Up to you if you wish to take the feedback, however that is the observation that I'm making based on the recent version. EDIT: You may want to have this on hand for reference. |
