RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Ton - 01-28-2013 Awesome! Can't wait for an update! RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - puggsoy - 01-29-2013 Guh, more problems. I've been checking some more in-game frames and they're inconsistent with some of the frames, even the properly aligned ones. Namely, instead of the hammers going behind Mario, in-game they go in front. However they look better behind, and judging by the chunks taken out of Mario to show the hammers they should be behind, but that's not what the game shows. Some frames, like when he's facing upwards and the hammer is in front of him, they obviously go behind, but for example when he's swinging side-on the handle overlaps his hand in the game. So now I have 2 choices. Should I do what the game shows or what I think it's supposed to show? RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Garamonde - 01-29-2013 that's because the hammer is a separate sprite I assume... I'd say do it like in the game but... probably someone else should be the judge of that. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - puggsoy - 02-01-2013 Finally did it! You would not believe how ridiculously the hammers were arranged, I had to rearrange about half of them to get them to match the game. I even had to modify the animation box height since one of my rearrangements (and only one!) went two pixels beyond the original ones. In any case I'm super glad it's done now, and hopefully this was the worst bit of the sheet. The Mini Mario hammer sprites will probably be the same, but they'll be easier with this under my belt. Anyway just decided to give this update since it was so annoying. As usual any suggestions are appreciated, I wasn't sure if I should put notes about the two types of end animations (hitting the ground and hitting a wall), or some sort of indication of which frames should be looped. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - A.J. Nitro - 02-01-2013 This is looking pretty good so far. It's really up to you how you want looped animations to be labelled. What I usually do is stick the frames that get looped in between thin black lines. Take a look at my Partners in Time sheets as an example. Good luck! RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - puggsoy - 02-02-2013 Well I was thinking I can give looped frames different background colours, like orange or a lighter shade of green (and have a key somewhere in the sheet explaining this). Adding new lines is a bit of a hassle since there are animation boxes, plus I've already got lines to differentiate the different endings so too many might get confusing. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - A.J. Nitro - 02-02-2013 Okay, I like your idea. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Garamonde - 02-02-2013 we also used color keys for the Pokémon for the B/W games so this is good, yes. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - puggsoy - 02-02-2013 OK sweet, here's how it looks if you want to see (decided to go with purple since then you can still see the yellow lines). By the way, I have a couple of questions. First of all, there are some sprites that are of both Mario and Luigi, like when Luigi stands on Mario for the drill move or when they hug. Would you recommend to put these in both Mario and Luigi's sheets, or should we have a separate "Bros" sheet? If the latter, I may do that before I finish Mario since there aren't a lot of them. Second question, do you want Mini Mario in the same sheet or his own? There are Mini counterparts for all sprites except for some cinematic ones, so it might be more "proper" or something to give them their own sheet, but I don't really care either way. Anyway thanks a lot for helping me with this guys, it's my first time working on this sort of sheet so I really appreciate the feedback and suggestions RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - A.J. Nitro - 02-02-2013 For any pose where the bros. are attached as one, you can include them both on Mario's and Luigi's sheets. Maybe have the overworld Bros. moves on their own sheets like I have for the Bros. Ball and spin jump. For Mini Mario, I'd only give him his own sheet if there ends up being to many poses. Otherwise, you can leave it on Mario's big overworld sheet. The preview is good overall, but maybe not have the hammer poses not so spaced out, but that's just me. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Garamonde - 02-02-2013 they're spaced out as to follow the dimensions of the boxes for all the sprites so they can all be animated easily. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - puggsoy - 02-03-2013 (02-02-2013, 05:08 PM)A.J. Nitro Wrote: For any pose where the bros. are attached as one, you can include them both on Mario's and Luigi's sheets. Maybe have the overworld Bros. moves on their own sheets like I have for the Bros. Ball and spin jump. OK, I guess I'll do that for the drill move and spin jump then. However, I'm wondering: there are sprites that have Mario doing a handstand on Luigi, kind of like the pipe attack they have, but in the overworld and without the pipe. It's not a standard move, can you remember if it actually appears in the game? Also, when Mario fills up with air and Luigi holds onto him so he can jump higher, would that count as a bros move or not? In any case I'll get started on a Bros moves sheet, since it'll be easy I'll get that done before I do the rest of Mario. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - A.J. Nitro - 02-03-2013 Ya, maybe you should include fused Mario and Luigi poses onto the overworld bros. sheet. It would make the single overworld sheets slightly smaller. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - puggsoy - 02-04-2013 Sweet, by that I assume you mean stuff like hugging and getting Luigi out of the Sockop. So far I've done the spin and drill moves. I kept forgetting to ask, but there's also a set of sprites which have Luigi carrying a sort of "block" version of Mario, similar to Bowser Memory M. You can see for yourself, it's in the file Fobjpc0023.png. I don't remember these being in the game, should I put them in an "unused sprites" bit of the sheet? Also as I mentioned before, there are some sprites of Mario "handstanding" on Luigi, in files Fobjpc0069.png and Fobjpc0070.png. Are these in the game or should they also be defined as "unused"? If you're not sure I'll just put them in normally. RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - A.J. Nitro - 02-04-2013 The flat Mario looks unused to me, but the other two you mentioned don't. I'd just put them onto the sheet normally. |
