Personally I always found it absolutely hilarious to beat people using higher-tier characters, with Ganondorf. I'd say he is, without a doubt the least effective character you can use in Brawl, but that of course makes winning even better.

I'll still be let down if they don't try to make him more balanced this time around though. He's just such a promising character.

I think what Gdorf would highly benefit from is some armor frames for certain attacks. It's clear that stuff like that has been implemented, both in the form of many of Little Mac's moves and some custom moves demonstrated like DK's altered Side B. That way he can still be slow and strong, but also able to punish faster characters.

I also wouldn't mind him a bit faster though, he was painful to use in Brawl.

I know that Bowser has some armor frames now, Ganon wouldn't be a huge stretch.

Uuhhhh ...
Uuhhuhhh... that game was only released in the US and it was developed by Japanese devs living in the US? It's not a perfect analogy but like, at least Punch-Out (same dev team) was RELEASED in Japan.

And as for everything else, I'd say Dixie still has a chance, exactly for the reasons you said, I'm just not gonna count on it is all, or cry bloody murder if it doesn't happen. And yeah, ok, the point still stands that the DK games that people actually liked (Jungle Beat aside, which ONLY had DK as a returning character) were all American made. I don't know, it just feels abundantly clear that Nintendo of Japan doesn't really dig on the DK universe as established by Rare.

And I mean, all the arguments aside, I don't really care what speculation people have about the game if they have fun doing it. I just take issue with someone complaining about their favorite series not being represented just 'cause it doesn't line up with how THEY personally see Nintendo as an entity in their head. Fire Emblem's been around since the Famicom days! It's pretty damn clear it's a series more near and dear to the Japanese gaming populace than the Donkey Kong Country games. And Awakening like, sold 3DSes. Not as many as Pokemon, sure, but that's something!

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS - Attack of the Clone - SchAlternate - 07-15-2014

So Lucina doesn't have a special sweestop in her blade, unlike Marth.

Or Roy.

Wonder what could that mean~ /delusional

But it's not the character I want from the series I like

So it's a wasted character slot[/typicalsmashrosterargument]

Anyway I'm honestly curious as to who's up for reveal next. I don't think we've seen the last curve-ball from Nintendo in terms of newcomers. I think there's at least one more "NO WAY" on the horizon.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Roy return. I WOULD prefer seeing him further differentiated from Marth than he was in Melee in terms of animations and such, mainly because of Lucina's inclusion.

If he did return, there's a few things I'd love to see implemented with him. For one thing, whenever he fought using the Sealed Sword, he had it sheathed and would unsheathe it to attack. I would actually love a fighting style like that for him.

Another thing I liked was his Awakening DLC artwork, which featured him using two short swords rather than one. That's another concept I'd be really excited to see.

What I think could set him apart from Marth even further is if they perhaps had him more of a youthful look, perhaps shorter than Marth. I think ultimately they are around the same age, though Marth's storyline does have him reaching about 17 years old, while I think all of Roy's is when he is fifteen, so... maybe.

I am doubtful Roy would be included, if only because people are making a stink about Fire Emblem getting 4 reps as it is.

Oh! Not entirely related, but I know that some people had disliked Ike because his Eruption wasn't blue fire or something. I think in Lucina and Robin's trailer you see Ike doing the move with blue fire instead now.

if you're playing with friends, sure, but i feel like in competitive if you pick something low tier you're either

a) confident as FUCK you're better than everyone or
b) really good at a bad character, which will usually put you at a disadvantage against someone really good at a good character

the first one is bad sportsmanship, the second is just... screwing yourself unless you're REALLY good. that said melee was pretty balanced so i assume it doesn't matter toooo much, but it still bothers me

Well Ganon's not low tier in Melee, which is the Smash that's played at Evo. And besides, there's plenty if reasons to use lower tiered characters for non disrespectful/fucking around ways. Not everyone knows the matchup for lower tiered characters and you can use that to your advantage. Some of the lower tiered characters work extremely well against higher tiered ones. Armada, one of the best Smash players, has a pocket Young Link for Puffs. Hungrybox has a Ness. Amsa plays Yoshi and has been doing pretty fucking well lately.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS - Attack of the Clone - soulcaliburfan - 07-15-2014

If you watched Evo, Armada's Young Link blew up Hungrybox's Falco for example.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS - Attack of the Clone - Sevenstitch - 07-15-2014

Alright, I'll level

I've watched a couple youtube videos outlining the two newcomers,
and I've decided that perhaps my assumptions were hasty, or downright wrong

Robin's dual play type seems quite deep and strategic, what with the hinting at limited uses
(and what one would assume a cooldown period) of his magic abilities, making offence and defense a real balancing act

I like that

As for Lucina, I've never really cared for Marth simply because of the nature of his moveset, but it seems that Lucina removes
that by being marginally quicker and having her entire blade having the same damage output, making gaps and distancing less important than it is for Marth

basically an "every-mans" Marth, I can dig it

TLDR: I'm a whiny baby that doesn't normally like sword users, but I may be swayed by these two. Interesting moveset design with Robin,
and what sounds like fine tweaks and adjustments for Marth's moveset seem to make Lucina a more accessable version of the former, which is cool in my book.

I think you're a bit confused here. Hungrybox played Jiggs vs Armada at this yea's Evo. (Well, I guess he did play Hungryfox one match too)

But he didn't really blow Hbox up either, Hbox won this year. Last year though (and at other tournaments this year) Armada beat him with Young Link, but not this years Evo

The more I see of Robin, the more I think I'm going to really like playing the character.

The idea of having a powerful smash attack limited temporarily as reference to the weapon durability system in Fire Emblem is pretty cool to me. I do wonder if his tomes actually do have durability like the sword, that book throwing COULD have been a taunt.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS - Attack of the Clone - Gors - 07-16-2014

What a way to join tsr again

If anything, you should be happy for the inclusion of both Robin and Lucina. It shows how the Fire Emblem series, Much like the Kid Icarus series, went from 'unknown' to 'popular'. To see a series strive and do well (especially in your country, seeing it was originally Japan-centric), should be more than a reason to be more welcoming to them.

Clones do reek of lack of thought, but we have those since the N64 days (remember Luigi?). I don't see why it causes such commotion to have more characters, seeing that this Smash has a lot of really unique characters so far, with the all-customizable Miis; the special customizable Palutena; the Luma-controlling Rosalina; the shoot-to-smash Megaman, and so on.

All in all I know I will not be able to convince some people but I know that I'm going to have a fun time with this game (h)

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS - Attack of the Clone - soulcaliburfan - 07-16-2014

Even if Lucina is a clone, there is a strong chance that custom moves can make her even more distinct if needed.

And given time, clones can have the opportunity to differentiate themselves from their similar brethren. I mean, look how different Luigi got from Mario by the time of Brawl, for example.

EDIT: plus, soulcaliburfan's post above has a good point about customized movesets already having the opportunity to allow for SSB4 clones to differentiate themselves.
