Brawl gave us the likes of Diddy Kong, Wario, Sonic, King Dedede, Pokemon Trainer. Smash 4 gave us Mega Man, Pac-Man and the rest are just... meh. I mean, I wanted Little Mac in too. But he's not quite as exciting as say Wario. The problem is that there aren't that many exciting Nintendo characters left to add. Brawl got most of em. Whatever newcomer was added to Smash 4 couldn't hold a torch to the likes of Diddy and such. But again, its subjective. I'm sure there were people excited to see Rosalina. I can't agree with this mentality. Almost every newcomer in Brawl is still in Smash 4. The way you're sounding to me is that the characters shouldn't have appeared in Brawl for them to matter in Smash 4. As it is on the Wii U, the main reason I enjoy the game (i.e why I can play it alone and not complain) is because of it's decent online mode and playing with friends irl, and the tournament scene. There is no more satisfaction left for me in classic mode or any other single player mode besides unlocking stuff just because. A character who was more or less added because of a new game. Lucario, I felt, was the big blemish Brawl had, similar to how many people believe Lucina and Dark Pit are Smash 4's blemishes. Who in the sweet fuck was this Jackal looking bugger? And why in the holy hell was he in Brawl? I never understood Lucario, and I didn't get why he was chosen over Mewtwo. It didn't matter though, because I was very satisfied with Brawl as a whole. Even if Lucario stuck out like a sore thumb in my eyes, I loved the game for what it was. My fanboy cred sort of helped me overlook a lot of Brawl's faults, which there are plenty. And I played it a lot over the years, eventually switching over to the Project M mod because it offered a better balance. The Smash 4 roster isn't perfect, it deserves its critique, but we've been at this an entire year now, can we just accept that characters like Rosalina, Bowser Jr., Shulk, Greninja, Ryu, etc deserve their spots just as much as Wario, Diddy, Lucario, Sonic, etc? Even Cloud, a character who's never really been on a Nintendo console, fits pretty well within the diverse movepools of Smash. Similar to a certain other 3rd Party character in Brawl, eh? But this is all subjective, and my opinion doesn't really affect anyone here. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to learn the Yoshi/Corrin matchup. RE: TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|NX HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING - BullockDS - 02-08-2016 Whilst Sm4sh definitely has much better core gameplay than Brawl, I have to say that Brawl was by far the more well-rounded package. Ironically, despite boasting a massive roster and lots of stages, Sm4sh felt... lacking to me. 4's Classic mode was the most barebones yet, there was no Adventure or story mode (3DS had Smash Run but that gets old fast), Special Smash modes were chopped from 3DS outside of Smash Run, the stage roster in both games is lackluster (many have concluded that WiiU has the absolute worst stage lineup in the series), especially since Sm4sh's retro selections skipped over Melee heavily, the inventory of items is iffy, WiiU's stage creator is embarrassingly threadbare compared to Brawl's and finicky as hell to work with (the drawing detection is just ever so slightly off and I've often accidentally lost two minutes of meticulous drawing work due to a line going askew when I didn't want it to, even when drawing in grid mode, and don't get me started on the abomination that is drawing lava), the roster is mostly solid but has some iffy inclusions and omissions, tethering the character roster between the WiiU and the 3DS games severely limited the potential for fighters both old and new, Target Blast is a poor substitute for Break the Targets (it was a neat bonus stage for Classic and a great way to test your skillset with a fighter), and on a more minor note there's a lack of polish for the "smaller" things (the menu being awfully designed and laid out, not having an instant retry option for losing an Event, a crapton of reused Brawl sound effects, select portraits sometimes taking forever to load even on WiiU, tons of reused Brawl trophy models, etc). Not a bad game but it feels more like a blueprint for a full game. It's got the fighters, but it needs... pretty much everything else IMO. I mean, I really like the 3DS version a lot too, but I like them because they feel fresh. 3DS has the branching path system, and Wii U has this sort of tabletop game vibe in its design and allows for a very large amount of possible match-ups. Really the reason the Wii U version is the way it is rests entirely on 8 player Smash. It allows for more matches incorporating it, and it allows more randomization for the enemy sets, and also incorporates move customization into the enemy as well. I like it a lot more than Brawl's, which had a preset arrangement EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Round one is always exclusively a Zelda matchup, the second set is either Yoshi or DK only, and so forth until the three man battle free-for-all before Master Hand. For something that is more often a random clusterfuck of a fight than not during single player sessions becomes more managable and fun when you have someone to share the burdon with. That said, the single player Classic Mode would've been better if it didn't cram 8-player Smash down your throat all the time. And screw random Metal and Giant encounters; those should've been separate rounds. While I'm at it, screw Master Hand's card attack, screw Master Core and screw Master Fortress. I know Master Fortress is part of Master Core, but that thing deserves a second screw. It tries to be Adventure Mode in a single round of Classic. Who thought that was a good idea? If I was merely comparing newcomers, Brawl would always win hands down for introducing King Dedede alone. RE: TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|NX HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING - TomGuycott - 11-11-2016 So there's more rumors about the last installment getting ported to the Switch. So far it is basically just a rumor, but how would you guys feel about it if it turned out to be true? Personally, I'd probably still be into the idea of getting it. I never bought all of the DLC for the original game (aside from the characters, which admittedly is the bigger chunk of change you can spend on the DLC), and the rumor of the DLC being included seems worthwhile enough for me. However, there's always that iota of possibility that they may add additional content to the game before releasing a Switch version. I could write a massive, multi-page paper about all the things I would love to see in Smash Bros, but in terms of down to earth, believable things, here's what I'd like to see and can actually see happening, if even only a slim possibility: New Characters: This is the most important part to any fan, as it is basically the core of the game. Any new character is going to spark excitement somewhere, and even if it is only one or two, I feel like the game is going to generate a lot of hype. I feel like the most reasonable picks to potentially see are something that has already generated a lot of requests, but just didn't make the cut. Splatoon is something that comes to mind, as that was pretty much released outside of Smash development. The release of Pokemon Sun and Moon could also pave way for a new Pokemon character. There's also the possibility of a new 3rd Party character, as Cloud and Bayonetta sort of shattered expectations for who could possibly become a Smash character. Returning Characters: If the DLC showed me one thing, it's that they really cared about bringing back previous characters where they could. Roy is probably the best thing that ever happened, I love him so much. There's still a few remnants of previous games that haven't made a return yet, but one stands out among all others: the Ice Climbers. According to Sakurai, they were WORKING in the Wii U version, so the possibility is there that they could return. However, the one thing that was never made clear was whether it was the 3DS version that kept them out, or the 8 Player Smash. While eliminating the need to allow them in 3DS Smash, if it was really the 8 Player smash that kept them out, they may still not make the cut. Here's hoping, though, they were quirky and fun. New Stages: While not as exciting as new characters, new stages would be a welcome addition to the port. For those of us who have played the game to death, seeing a fresh backdrop to fight in is something that would definitely be worthwhile. That being said, stages that are hazard heavy are probably not the best idea, as stages such as Wily's Tower and Pyrosphere got a lot of backlash for having annoying bosses. Returning Stages: Now there is just as much sentiment here to bring back classic stages like from Melee and Brawl that didn't make the cut into the latest installment. However, what I REALLY want to see here is 3DS stages ported to console. After all, the Switch is a algamation of console and portable play, so why not combine the stages of both Smash versions? Granted, this is highly unlikely if the game is going the route of simply a port, but if they want to really go that extra mile and upscale the 3DS levels to a console, I'd be all for it. Hell, I'd even settle for 3DS stages being only playable when the system was in portable mode, as long as they are on there. Expanded Soundtrack: Ever since Brawl, the series has sported a very expansive, editable soundtrack. With more time to develop a port, it might be reasonable to see a few extra songs added to each of the stages. Particularly anything that happened to be sparse with songs in the first place, such as the Final Fantasy VII stage. New Skins: I'm a sucker for alternate costumes, even just palette swaps. I was always a little bit disappointed that Little Mac was the only character to get as many costumes as he did, even if they were just reskins of his first 8 costumes. I feel like each character could use a little extra flair with palettes and skins. I would love to see more palettes for each of Wario's costumes, or an alternate Lucina costume where she actually wears that awesome mask, or I'd even settle for another situation of character palettes being a different character like Olimar and Alph. I wouldn't mind seeing that on Mega Man for a Proto Man skin. Anyway, the worst that happens is we end up with a port of the Wii U version with all the DLC included, but now it's portable because of the Switch's nature. What do you guys expect or want to see with this potential port? No new music, still no custom moves for the DLC characters, and no new stages or characters in general. Really I'm just a rabid pipe-dream fan that lets my head be filled with fantasies about what Smash would be like with different things. Actually, one fear I had was that if it was ported that they may have trouble securing the rights to the 3rd party fighters. However, seeing that list of 3rd party supporters for the system pretty much alleviated those concerns.
