Or you just do what they did in mega Man: black background with high contrast outlines/details. Can't get much darker than that.
As for the two choices, I dunno. On the one hand, the right side is darker, but on the other hand, the left side just feels more pleasing to my eyes, at least on an LCD monitor.

but its ok, you said you sucked at choosing colors, and they're completely diferent, so its obiusly not an edit.

I suck at choosing colors for anything. And yeah, my light source is the left, his is from the right.
