I'm not going to lie, the only reason I don't mind Shulk being in is because he's British

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - Phantom Killah - 08-31-2014

his voice really caught me off guard in the reveal trailer.
was not expecting him to sound british

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - recme - 08-31-2014

i thought his voice was australian at first, but i guess british could work.

because of shulk, i think i might want to try out xenoblade one day. Smile

I wasn't saying that every other franchise in the game had perfect icons. But if I were to come to Fire Emblem's defense, I would say that at least the sword icon is clearly stylized. It's not just a literal silhouette of a sword used by any of the fighters.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - TomGuycott - 08-31-2014

Again, somewhat important to the story of Fire Emblem, as it is loosely based on the Falchion.

Also, the Monado is mildly stylized as well. I really don't see the difference you're seeing.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - Jermungandr - 08-31-2014

It's seriously not that big of a deal. I was just wondering if they didn't have something else to work with. I've never played any of the games myself after all.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - TomGuycott - 08-31-2014

I'm not too familiar with Xenoblade, but I have trouble believing something that is so centric to the story that it can be featured on a version of its cover art without a main character even present shouldn't be the series symbol.

But like I said, never played Xenoblade. I am curious what else would work.

«This time, you can challenge every fighter in All-Star Mode from the moment you turn on the game!! This is a survival battle with limited recovery items and no option to continue. However, this mode will be incomplete until you've unlocked every fighter... Until then, you can only play against characters that are already available. This is a picture of the bottom-screen menu, with a padlock indicating that the mode is still incomplete.»

«In these battles, multiple opponents appear in one stage, and you clear the battle by defeating a number of them. The rest area that appears between battles displays the next opponents and the year the characters made their first appearances, and it also holds recovery items and an occasional reward. The characters you fight against appear pretty much in chronological order. Behold, the history of Nintendo games!!»

Well, this is pretty interesting. Not a hundred percent sure I like this set-up but there's probably good reasons behind it.

DLC.

A lot of people were talking about how DLC would work into All-Star mode at all considering how that mode worked in previous games. By allowing players to get used to All-Star mode growing as they unlock characters, they set a precedent that will allow it to grow as they release DLC.

Note: I'm not saying this confirms DLC. All this confirms, from what I see, is future-proofing for potential DLC.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - Zero Kirby - 09-02-2014

I think it's pretty clever! (Unfortunately, it also debunks my theory about the padlock meaning there are different kinds of All-Star mode that are unlockable - like the old one from Melee and the Timeline one from Brawl being separate selectable All-Star modes. But who knows! Doesn't mean it won't happen, just means it didn't mean that!)

It does make me wonder just how much of the roster is available at the word go, however - Brawl had 21 if we're not counting transformations as separate characters. Melee's final roster was 25 when you unlock All-Star. I think the starter roster's gonna be around there.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - Koopaul - 09-02-2014

The Japanese version of POTD says that you can play All-Star Mode without unlocking everyone. A padlock will appear in the corner if you haven't got all the characters.

This is why Game & Watch doesn't appear in that picture.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - TomGuycott - 09-02-2014

As much as a fixed order is mildly off putting, the fact it is based on the specific year a character was introduced is a nice touch.

Also the fact you can play it from the start.

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - Jermungandr - 09-02-2014

Yes but how does earning trophies work in this case? Will you still get a trophy for the character you're playing if you complete it with an incomplete roster? Or maybe you get two trophies for each character in this mode, one for completing it at any point, and a second for beating it after the roster is complete?

RE: Super Sm4sh Bros - SPOILER FREE Thread - TomGuycott - 09-02-2014

Maybe character specific trophies aren't even awarded for completing a mode anymore. Kinda hard to say.

I don't really see a problem with awarding a trophy even if the roster is incomplete though. I mean, assuming most if not all the characters on the site now are starters, that is STILL a massive list to get through as is.

how does that even work if you unlock the final character?
