RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 08-22-2015 The following is not exactly mine. It's actually done by balmsold, who is helping me to make Hitmonchan's animations by taking care of the sketches and outlines for a good part of the animations, while I handle the cleaning up, shading, and detailing: This is what he's working on so far, which is still in an experimental phase. The movements in here are far from being final, and he only did these for the sake of experimenting with the flow of the punches, given that he'll still outline over them later on. Before he does so, is there anything in the flow or the concept of the animation that he should change? RE: Roach's slow work - kidicarus29 - 08-23-2015 This is a very nice sketch for an animation! I think the fist return on the jab could be a bit faster considering a jab is a punch made as a way to keep your guard up for as long as possible while attack for as little time as possible. It seems to be a 2 frame hit, but then 4 frames on the return. That could be lessened to 3 or even 2 if it looks right. I feel like something could be done with the uppercut too, but I'm not sure what. I think it's the fact that there are 2 very similar frames near the end of it where it would connect as a hit that irks me a bit. Other than that, my only nitpick is that the straight comes from the jab in the animation lol but I'm assuming you strung together these punches to make an example animation showcasing all of the punches. (Edit: I think his foot shouldn't end up in it's last position until his arm does in the uppercut. It gets there a frame or two before, and it's a bit awkward to see the upper body moving without his legs indicating movement from his hips which generate the power in the punch.) RE: Roach's slow work - Ridge Troopa - 08-24-2015 This is a pretty great start. The first jab seems fine to me, but the second one feels like it's coming back a few frames too slow as kidicarus29 said. As for the uppercut, it feels really weak compared to how much movement there is. Maybe try making the foot land after the actual punch and give it more power when it connects. RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 08-25-2015 Thank you for the feedback regarding the animation. He has already made the rough animation for one of the punches, as seen in here: I'll eventually get to clean it up, after I take care of other things I still have to work on (private content, that is). RE: Roach's slow work - kidicarus29 - 08-27-2015 I don't understand what that little red thing is after his punch, but i'm assuming it's supposed to be a sort of "after-image," but it appears and disappears way too slow. His punch (which is a straight btw guys, not a jab lol) is pretty slow too. I would suggest speeding it up by several frames. His hip should be about a frame behind his actual punch, if that works well. RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 09-05-2015 Took your critique into the animation after I cleaned it, and here's the finished result: The changes did a pretty good improvement in the animation. In other news, as for JJ (that one kid with big shoes I was animating) is getting an entire remake to further improve his sprite style, on an attempt to make him look more professional and overall more stylish/appealing-- and also just so he doesn't looks way too chibi as he did before, and somewhat inspired on the old arcade Capcom sprite style. Either way, I'm willing to update anything in the sprite and it's style in here, so if you all have any idea of how to further improve it, then please, do comment-- you're also free to edit it by yourself. This is something I really want the general opinion of everyone to make sure I'm keeping the sprite design of the game as appealing as possible. RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 09-06-2015 Slight JJ redesigns based on someone's feedback (and an edit to his leg positioning): 1. Same design 2. White lines to the end of his shirt to make it easier to distinguish his arms from the shirt 3. Based on both the critiques that I got, saying that his design felt too monochrome and needed more color to it, and that said extra color could be used for a neck accessory, given that the turtleneck is hard to see... which... to tell the truth, I can't say I agree, because turtlenecks are kind of like that, and I don't like adding extra colors to simplistic design color schemes. What do you say? Are any of these an improvement? RE: Roach's slow work - DarkGrievous7145 - 09-10-2015 These are some amazing sprites you've got here! RE: Roach's slow work - Ton - 09-10-2015 For what it's worth, I don't like the purple at all, and I don't think it's hard to distinguish the yellow from the skin tone. RE: Roach's slow work - StarSock64 - 09-10-2015 I don't think I even realized it was a turtleneck. Why not try just making the neck part the same bright yellow as the rest of it? If people think it needs more color (which I don't necessarily disagree with), maybe you could throw some white/bright color accents on the gloves or try a different color (maybe even black?) for the stripes on the pants? Um...I'm pretty poop at design so I'm not sure what a good suggestion would be haha RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 11-25-2015 Been busy af, but I had a little of free time, so I thought I'd join the bandwagon: T'was a nice game. This is my first time attempting this sprite style, though, so I might need some pointers before I animate it. RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 11-26-2015 He's here. RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 12-23-2015 Will be streaming. Might go on for the whole day and night, since I have too much to do. RE: Roach's slow work - MotorRoach - 01-02-2016 I might make more, when possible. |
