RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Shade - 02-08-2015 You could always do Mr. Stevenson from Gumshoe. He's plenty obscure. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Kyleglor - 02-08-2015 Cant wait to see them, also the sad thing on the limitations also means no Pikachu, but I understand the need to keep it consistant. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-08-2015 Whew! And with some of the more obscure characters out of the way, I think it's time to return to the bigger franchises to add more characters. I went ahead and restructured the roster and removed the palettes, because they seemed kind of pointless. Can you name all of these classic Nintendo characters? Ah, one thing, though...I can't help but feel my anatomy on Devil and Excitebiker is a little off. Could I get some input on those two? The difference might not be huge, but Bowser's about 6 pixels thinner now. Well...Tthat blue was the darkest color I had next to black, and I haaaate using black in my sprites because it makes characters blend in with black backgrounds. I went ahead and swapped those blues for a dark cyan, which is perceptually a little closer to black. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Kyleglor - 02-08-2015 once again these are great it looks like the excite bikers arms are a little long compared to the base of them atleast and his back is two arched im headed out now but I think ill take a better look when I get back once again they look great RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Joxon - 02-08-2015 I think Duck Hunt Dogs expression is dull. He looks tired. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Kyleglor - 02-09-2015 a couple of things on the devil is that I feel the eyes should take up a little more space on the head and the horns should be a little more straight up RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Virt - 02-09-2015 My palette edit for the duck. I don't know why you have its palette shared with Little Mac. The duck doesn't even have green. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Natis - 02-09-2015 You've got quite the roster there now! I was pleasantly surprised to see Mike Jones in there. When I saw you wanted games from 1989 and prior, I didn't suggested him based on that. With that said, I'm surprised Marth hasn't made an appearance yet. His game came out in Japan in Spring 1990, before Mike Jone's game did near the end of 1990. (StarTropic didn't even make it to Japan, I think.) I do have a suggestion for Mach Rider. To me, he is the "Capt. Falcon" of what would be the NES Smash. I just think that he should be a few pixels taller than Samus and his back should be more define. Here is a quick edit to show what I mean, hope that's ok. Everything is looking really good though! RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-09-2015 Normally I like to address issues with updates, but there are quite a few things to say so I'll give an update with just the tweaks and layout change. But Excitebiker had a more upright pose, so I'll change the sprite for the sake of accuracy. I'll make a tweak or two to Devil. And when drawing NES sprites, I like to use dark shades as a substitute for black so that they don't blend into backgrounds. Personally, I prefer the green-blue-yellow duck because all of those colors are adjacent on the color wheel, while blue-magenta-yellow can create some eyeburn. Well...I originally wanted to have 1989 as the cutoff date, but that would mean excluding Kirby, so I decided to accept any 1st-party character on the NES. I went ahead and ordered all of the characters by their release date, so the viewer can decide what cutoff date they want for themselves. Was SSBD released in 1989? Only include Ninten and all the characters to the left! As for Mach Rider...yeah. He should be a bit taller. Thanks for the feedback! RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Virt - 02-09-2015 One of the duck hunt ducks has black, yes, but not the duck that accompanies the dog in Smash Bros. I thought you were going for accuracy to how the characters appear, but your argument is also valid. So if you want to go with that design, it's coolio, Julio. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Joxon - 02-09-2015 The raised ends on Peachs dress bothers me. In most Mario games, the dress goes all the way to the ground and with a little more to spare. And if thats supposed to be on a 3D/2.5D plane, then any other character looks like it's only on a 2D plane. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Kyleglor - 02-09-2015 ^ also this about peach I couldn't figure out how to word it but the dress at the bottom seemed off to me (02-09-2015, 05:18 PM)Virt Wrote: One of the duck hunt ducks has black, yes, but not the duck that accompanies the dog in Smash Bros. I believe his designs are based on there sole nes appearences and back then the dog wasn't pared with a certain duck by colors RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Virt - 02-09-2015 The dress bottom does look off, now that I look at it. It looks like it has perspective while none of the other sprites do. The bottoms of them are flat. The pink and blue duck still did exist, though, Kyleglor. It does make sense as well to use the green and black duck, considering it was the duck used on the box art of the game. RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-10-2015 Three more characters for this update! I'd ideally like to update once every row, but since it's the middle of the week things will be going more slowly. I'm happy with how Hikari and Meta Knight turned out, but I'm really not sure about Ganon. As always, drawing larger characters is a struggle for me due to my general ignorance of basic anatomy. For Ganon, I was using this as my reference. Hmm...maybe if I rotated his hand like this, it would look more natural? And yes, I'm aware Meta Knight looks incredibly doofy and the design of Galaxia is wrong. That's just how he looked like in Kirby's Adventure. I originally drew it flat on the ground, but that looked rather static to me. This might be a good compromise. Oh, and you only need to mention it once, people. ^^; RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Koh - 02-11-2015 Something I'm curious about...how come some of the characters are at a quarter angle, while others are at a perfect profile angle? |
