The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-06-2014 It has been brought to the MachoBot's attention that car that he's been driving doesn't exactly scream "Macho." Yeeah. In an effort to appease you punks, I'm now a mechanic but yeeah don't you panic, the MachoBot is taking this penciled necked Volkswagen and he's driving it down the Freeway of Awesome. Ooh Yeeah He's turning it into a Volksrod, with updates to VGRF. So how many of you punks want to see some pictures? Ooh, dig it! Before: Front fenders gone: RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - Sevenstitch - 08-06-2014 Do you just plan on goosing the motor up and giving it some "character", or are you doing any major modifications to it like chopping the top, or turning it into a trike of some sort Or squat that front and put some honkin tires on the back, like way too big either way you cant go wrong with way oversized big boy upturned vertical exhaust pipes Oh and a tall shifter would look cool, its a manual shifter i assume looking forward to seeing what you do with it RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-06-2014 (08-06-2014, 02:03 PM)Sevenstitch Wrote: Do you just plan on goosing the motor up and giving it some "character", or are you doing any major modifications to it I'm probably not going to chop the top, honestly. It's hard as fuck to chop a bug top because of the way it's curved, and I haven't found anywhere around here that would do it for a reasonable amount. The front end has already been lowered a decent amount already, and I'm planning on lowering the back to match it. I'm not planning on doing anything to the engine that's in it at the moment. That's only because I'm planning on just building a different motor entirely. It has a 1800 cc air cooled motor in it, and I'm planning on building a 2332 cc engine and swapping in a VW Bus tranny. I have some custom headlights/tailights that are supposed to be coming in tommorow, I'm planning on extending the front beam (where the wheels are and what not) about 8 inches forward and repainting the car turquoise and white, with a red pin stripe separating the two colours. I'm also debating on whether or not to order Turtleback wheels, which were some mag wheels from the 70's. I'll probably post some pictures of the lights/wheels/an example of an extended bug whenever I'm off work RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - Sevenstitch - 08-06-2014 That all sounds cool, sounds like it will look pretty slick when its all done I like the look of Turtlebacks, they'd fit nicely on it, and the color combo sounds good Yeah im not sure where you are from, but the area that im in has a few rodded bugs rolling around and they all vary from spiffy to insane we have one that i spot every once in a while to and from work that has been turned into some sort of monster trike with like 30 inch back tires thing sounds like a freight engine, its really sweet I suppose if you actually plan on driving it regularly, your modifications are much more on the sensible side, more so than my crazy machinations Is this going to be a daily driver, or is this just a hobby kind of car? RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-06-2014 So I was planning on posting this earlier, but IMGUR is such a piece of shit on mobile. Yes Sevenstich, I am planning on using this as a daily driver, with 300 mile trips every other weekend or so. So my build won't exactly be the most extreme, unfortunately. To be honest, the car was in too good of shape to that to it. I just didn't have the heart. Maybe a different build a different day. Anywhooo The back fenders are finally off: Ass shot: Couple side shots: Couple engine shots just because: Picture of the front: Headlights/Taillights I've ordered: These are Turtleback wheels. I'm still debating on whether to use these or the stock half moons that VW's came with. However, I'm a little while from that part of the operation right now I'm debating on whether I should extend the front or not. If I extend it, I lose the front apron underneath the trunk, and that's where I was planning on putting my blinkers. However, every Volksrod I've seen has an extended front, and it makes it look a bit cleaner. Unfortunately, the one dude that sells the kit isn't selling it right now, so I won't be able to extend the front until after the initial build. Just incase you're unfamiliar with an extended VDub, here's a picture: And here's the paint I'll be using. This is my father's truck, and I'll be using the reverse. (white on bottom, turquoise on top) The bug's paint won't be flat like his truck's, either. RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - Sevenstitch - 08-06-2014 oh yeah, an extension up front would be snazzy, but it would kind of fuss with the body a bit huh and that shade of turquoise is like my favorite color honest are you going for a gloss paint of some sort, or maybe something with metal flake? RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-06-2014 Glossy. Just a regular base coat and clear. You can't see it on the truck's picture, but I'm also planning on having a red pinstripe separate the turquoise and the white The extension wouldn't mess up the body too much. In fact, it would make the body look cleaner, considering I would lose the square aprons on the front and back. But the fact that I'm mounting the front turn signals/brake lights on the aprons and the dude who does the extension kit is already behind on orders (and hasn't said when he's taking orders again) is making me question the extender. I could always extend it later after I've built it, but I'd have to repaint after cutting and I'd have to order new brake lights and front turn signals RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-11-2014 So hopefully I get to start welding today. I'm going to be welding all the metal spots on the side closed, aswell as the holes that go around each fenderwell that used to be where the fenders bolted up to. Maybe I'll finish this car before Friday, which is when I head off to school RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-15-2014 Well guess who's now in primer? (Excuse the Instagram filter, if I didn't use it you wouldn't really be able to see the car. The lighting in a body shop is atrocious. Who would've guessed?) Expect pictures of the car painted up tonight! RE: The MachoBot builds a MachoRod - [robo9] - 08-15-2014 So the paint is a little different than what I said before. But god damn, is it nice The orange is a 60's Mustang colour called Emberglo, the beige is from a 2000's New Beetle, and the pin stripe is Pumpkin Orange from a 73/74 Volkswagen Thing |
