Having Fun Isn't Hard When You've Got a Library Card! -- Reading Thread - Kriven - 02-07-2016 We don't have one of these either, as far as I can tell. Maybe nobody reads. I know I have to make myself do it sometimes, with all that other flashy, brightly colored media, with sounds calling my name. But books are great too, and I find the act of reading a paper book can be therapeutic. Recently I finished a book called "The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss" which is a pretty cool story about an amateur private eye who gets roped into an MMO murder mystery, but I won't talk about it too much beyond that because I actually know the author and don't want to feel like an infomercial. The short is that I enjoyed it, though, and I think some of you guys might have fun with it as well. Right now I'm working through Batman: Knightfall, which I found at a consignment shop in Illinois... when I picked it up, I didn't realize it was just a novelization of the Bane storyline from the comics. The prose makes me feel inadequate as a writer, but I do catch myself getting a little tired of how wordy it can be... Which is actually a common elements I've noticed with media tie-in novels. I don't know if the publishers are pushing for wordiness in order to make the books actually "feel like" the stereotypical idea of a book to audiences who don't normally read unless something happens to relate to another one of their interests, or if it's on the part of the authors. Either way, it's a little slow-going because of that... and it's not so great otherwise. The best moments so far are fleshing out Bane's history and how he manipulated things while in prison, but I'm actually not too enthralled with the Batman parts. Maybe it'll pick up. What are you guys reading? RE: Having Fun Isn't Hard When You've Got a Library Card! -- Reading Thread - tigerlily - 02-09-2016 I am reading Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. Yup. RE: Having Fun Isn't Hard When You've Got a Library Card! -- Reading Thread - ~Axis~ - 02-10-2016 The only time I read is when I study. Which is what I'm doing these past few weeks. I made a decision to get a PHD in Software Engineering and am devoting myself to studying at the local library until I go to college, where I can use the library over there. Although I don't have any specific books of interest, I can say that I'm falling in love with the atmosphere. Its so quiet... yet, it's vast knowledge speaks to me. You can feel the energy of the mind fill you. Your focus towards the pages of your book.... its super effective. Heck I'm loving it. RE: Having Fun Isn't Hard When You've Got a Library Card! -- Reading Thread - Shade - 02-10-2016 I has't been reading the worketh of William Shakespeare in an effort to becometh more cultured. I bite mine thumb at thee, thou artless brazen-faced fustilarian RE: Having Fun Isn't Hard When You've Got a Library Card! -- Reading Thread - puggsoy - 02-17-2016 Since I was gone for two weeks, I had heaps of time to read (i.e. didn't have a computer ) so I got through Skulduggery Pleasant: Mortal Coil. I'd already read it before, but that was ages ago and I'd already reread The Faceless Ones and Dark Days. It was pretty good, and I hope to make time for continuing with Death Bringer. I also started reading The Rithmatist, which a friend recommended. It's quite interesting, so I'm glad I took it out. Should hopefully finish it before the trimester starts.
