In case it needed to be explained, the chunk next to the spark effect is from the wall. In the same situation in the movie, Batman used the speargun to rip a chunk of a wall to knock this guy out. You can do the same thing in the game to get a cheap hit.

It's not that odd, you can also do the double head butt (grabbing two enemies and smashing their heads together) and that was in the movie too.
