Just separate "Sprite Discussion" into customs and edits, and keep an archive of the old topics so people can sort them theirselves.

So, you'd click on Sprite Discussion and it'd turn out like this:
-Custom Sprites
-Edited Sprites
-Fangames
-Requests
-Archive

This way, nobody feels inferior, and you couldn't really argue against edits in an edit section. Also, I'm sure people are smart enough to know which section they belong in, like with Sprite Discussion and Submissions right now.

I'm not sure I like that idea at all. With what you're proposing, it'd take an extra click just to get to a forum where you can see sprites - when you visit frequently, that extra click can get really, really annoying. Besides that, the Edited sprites forum would be so filled with crappy edits that it wouldn't be worth the few clicks and mouse-movements to make it in the first place.

Not really hot on your idea, Shroob. Take no offence, I just don't see it as the right way to go.

It is still entirely possible to have people posting edits in the customs section, and vice versa. Unlikely that the regulars would be making that mistake, but others might. Also, you can still have the "bad customs" or the "quality edits". This revolves around the type of sprite, rather than its quality.

The proposed "Beginner" and "Experienced" sections would allow someone to at least expect the quality of the sprites and the skill level of the spriter, as that seems to be the main issue here. Edits and recolours are just making the issue of skill more apparent nowdays.

You could easily identify who is and isnt an "experienced" spriter using the badge system, this would stop the problem of people posing or whatever.

You need to be willing to moderate it properly though and constantly, so you'll need to know when somebody's ready to move into the new board etc. so you can sort it out, something i'm pretty sure only admins can alter, though i'm not sure whatthe settigns are here.

It'll be a lot of extra effort but the system could potentially work.

And tbh, the problem of alienating people could easily be avoided by just leavingthe beginner board as Sprite Discussion and then making the other board invisible to users who dont have access, that way they wont feel alienated and they'll improve in their own time, rather then working incredibly hard on one piece just to get into the board, then going back to "beginner" sprites.

If the forum were to be invisible, beginners would not a have a point of reference to strive for. So that could also bring up another issue of others just thinking we're made up of beginners as they cannot access the other forum.

Begginer- For edits and basically couple first time customs and all that learning

Semi Pro- (Gay name) People who know how to sprite customs, shading techniques, that kind of stuff who are approaching the stage of making submittable sheets.

Proffesional- People like 1up and Shawn, Joshr, and all others who whenever they sprite a sheet, it is usually already ready to submit.

2 would make it too confusing because people in the middle wouldnt know where to go, and I'm sorry to say that, middle people making up 5/8 of tsr.

Yes, but that would also make them feel less "threatened" by the superior works of the more experienced members.
By personal experience, I can say that newcomers tends to get more defensive and tend to make more excuses when they feel the pressure of being compared with someone better than them.

For example: years ago, a guy said this gem that even today is remembered: "Shut up, I'm awesome period. I'm not the problem, your standards are too high and if you lowered them a bit you would like my sprites a lot. Elitists!"
Because you know, anyone who can do good stuff and refuses to praise awful spriters is automatically an elitist AND the responsible for the newcomer's defects.

If its invisible, then begginers wouldn't work harder to become Experts because they wouldn't even know about it.

If I was a begginer and I saw an exclusive forum, I would want to work harder and become a better spriter to be a part of that super-group.

so you're saying it should have limited permissions, so beginners can read it but not post? Sounds good, considering criticism from noobs can be one of the worst types of criticism.

And being a beginner myself I can say that I WOULD, in fact, work towards it. I mean, I've been doing it for years but I haven't had the time or patience to get good at it; something like this might change that.

No, that would not work because you dont want people asking you questions in your own sprite thread. You want people giving advice.

How would we classify 'begginers' 'experts', and hopefully if my idea works 'people in the middle'?
