I know that we need to edit the sprites because their style is so difficult, we need to keep up the sizes, but with a simpler style, right?. Maybe we can try do this:

1. Use a pallete with less colours.
2. Use a pallete more colourful.
3. Since I think that decorate very much the characters isn't the best option, we would draw only the indispensable elements of the sprite. For example, it's obvious that Ness' bag and hat or Link's sword and shield must be painted, but other things (like Mario's "embroideries" in his costume) can be out.

I edited a bit the Mario's sprite with my opinion about the new style (I know that isn't the same edited one sprite that create one sprite... sorry.), and I've made this:

In my opinion, we need to do the character fine but with their essences. I like the actually sprite of Mario, but I think that he has too dark colours. I think that somebody can say "Ohh, this Mario is very good, I can't do something like this" when they can see the sprite because the colours are too dark and real. Maybe if we change the palletes...

But I'm not sure if with this we are going to a better way or by wrong way, because I am not a good spriter. xD

I think that's a step i nthe right direction. Just need to make the face look more like Mario.

That looks fine, but the blue needs either less saturation or more contrast.

And there are too many colors.

Yes, but... how? with a big moustache?

Yes, I know. I'll edit now.

Edit: Tyvon, do you say some like this? (A)

Now, I use only three blue colours xD

Well, I made two sprites.

A. Mario with other blue colours in her suit and with a big moustache.
B. Normal
C. B one with A's moustache
D. A's shadows with B colours.

Do you like this?

fuuuck.
I haven't read this thread for a while, and edited some sprites (more saturated and less colors). Now someone has already posted a Mario.
Hmm. Nevermind. Posting this stuff anyway: http://i27.tinypic.com/140znep.png

Josefran, I think C is the best out of these. The moustache is great, but the colors still need some work. You can cut one shade of red and blue if you increase the contrast of the shades. You can use my palette as a reference, if you want.

Zabi and me just finished our new Mario's sprite. We think that we have done a very good job. What do you think?

Are you talking about the center sprite? xD

This is the final sprite that we have done.

The other two are my version and his version xD

That Mario looks pretty nice. Though, I'd have to say that the shading on his belly looks a bit off.
