Well, not necessarily pointless, but it does kind of null the whole portability thing.
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.

yes it is. It's the EXACT same system and plays the exact same games.
pretty sure the hardware specs (aside from the screens, obviously) are the same as well.

A larger screen is pretty important to some people, really; sometimes more than just aesthetically.

And you say this like the original Gameboy/GBC didn't have a fuckload of incarnations each (although a lot of them were'nt seen outside of japan), casing upgrades are nothing new.

Pretty sure it went

Game Boy Hueg (original green and black)
Game Boy Pocket (iirc faster processor, plus smaller for better portability)
Game Boy Color (entirely new system, with a faster processor and better hardware, etc. yet still played original GB games.)
Game Boy Advance (another entirely new system, with SNES-like power)
GBASP (Clamshell design prevents scratches, with the addition of an added backlight and built in rechargable batteries. Not to mention the fact that it was about half as big as an original GBA when closed, making it more portable.)

Not including different colors like the Pokemon Pikachu GBs and japan exclusives like the GB Light (which although was a bust still included the backlight which warranted a new model in itself) the only debatable thing there is the GB Pocket, which still improved upon the original GB and made it more portable while requiring less batteries. And iirc the screen was better too.

The DSiLL is as big as a wii case when opened, according to that picture.
They made it bigger, yet it has the same hardware. Seems like a step backwards to me.

Has anyone noticed that the screen progressively dims as you go from DsLite - Dsi - DsiLL ?

why do they have to make so many damn systems. stop making systems you fucking extremely distinguished gentlemen. can they not come out with a line of systems that doesn't need a new "version" of it within the next 2 months or so?

NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube. all systems that had no fucking problems. i loved this generation.

'used' to be a pretty big nintendo fan but they are just complete and utter shit now.

It's because their systems practically print money, as old and overused as the joke is now. (Although it is true.)
By making this, which is the exact same system with no changes to it except it's bigger, (the DSlite at least had improved screens on it and a better stylus holder) they'll just rake in twice as much cash from consumer demand over a worthless "upgrade".

It's an amazing business model on Nintendo's end (as they're still a business, in the end) as they can make a fuckton of cash by doing basically nothing, but at the same time it dicks over their "original" customers who have been there since the beginning.

probably would have been a more awesome idea if they re-included the GBA slot

next thing you'll know they'll decide to not include the DS card slot in the next DS

After that new PSP that came out this would hardly surprise me.

as much of a joke as that was, I just couldn't help but laugh at how it's probably true.

Wasn't there a Gamboy Advanced Micro? This isn't the first time Nintendo released a different sized version of the same portable console.
