first off, that's because every game between X5 and X8 is terrible

second, do people actually believe there's a megamanx "canon" because i'm pretty sure it's just robots killing other robots and surprise sigma shows up again at the end

Actually, the series' creator had planned to end the series at MMX4 or X5, I can't recall which one now. So they had all the story worked on until that one and after that was pretty much because the investigators/guys at direction board/fans/some other assorted reasons demanded it.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I just found the storyline in games 1-5, as scarce as it was, far more coherent than 6-8. I mean, in 6, Sigma LITERALLY shows up at the end of the second to last level without ANY mention of him being there the whole game, shows up at the end of the last level like he's drunk off his ass in two of the worst forms I've ever seen him in, and then basically just says "I NEVAR DIIIIE!!!!!"

Mega Man X was built by dr.light 100 years ago and Zero was built by dr.wily 100 years ago and they were both sealed away, although zero was never given the chance to be finished for some reason and was sealed away early, this is never really explained or extrapolated on

X was found by Cain who was a fossilologist biologist guy (idk what hte fuck he is doing making robots though) and then he found him and decided that it was a cool idea to replicate him and he made the Reploids.
Although he didn't consider that they didn't have 30 years to test the computer systems and digital psyche or whatever to determine whether or not he will go on a homocidal rampage and so reploids started going "maverick", so they founded the maverick hunters

and then they found Zero
Zero killed the maverick hunter unit that was sent after him, and then Sigma came after him and they fought. Sigma narrowly beat Zero but only because a bigt W appeared on his forehead, so sigma punched it and got the virus that he had so now sigma has the zero virus which is actually the sigma virus.

later on, sigma's mind and the virus merge and he loses the need for a physical body in order to exist

Sigma starts his rebellion, infecting those who resist joining him with the virus (like storm eagle, who resisted)
Zero and X (who is only a B rank hunter) pursue him and Vile another maverick gets Zero to sacrifice himself to save X and X is now stronger and kills Sigma, who finds he doesn't need a body to exist and so he just creates new bodies

later on zero is resurrected by serges who is believed to possess dr.wily's AI because Wily uploaded his mind to a computer system when he died/before he died, and as such serges "finishes" the design and adds the shoulder pads and Z-saber

X and Zero start up again and go up in the ranks until X is A rank hunter and Zero is S rank hunter leader of hunter unit 17

X has unlimited potential, which makes him really possibly strong

Zero is like X only not as cool sorry

Zero dies again in X5 after Sigma covers th world with the virus and destroys a lot of the planet, and its found out that Zero is the source of hte virus and rather htan get infect he becomes much stronger
eventually zero and X fight eachother, either for stupd reasons or because zero absorbs a lot of virus and becomes his "true" self
Its revealed the plot was set up by Wily who informed Sigma of Zero's true self and Sigma sought to awaken that

in X6 the world is destroyed and zero is dead but he comes back and gate is a scientist and he made a virus out of zero's dna and brings back sigma because he is literally the dumbest fuck ever and there is this guy ISOC who is probably also dr.wily because he freezes Zero with his thoughts and calls him a robot instead o reploid and probably rebuilt him maybe idk
gate dies he was friends with alia
sigma is pretty much shattered at this point

axl has a copy chip which makes him a prototype new generation reploid

the new generation reploids are a further evolution of the normal reploids and they havce copy chips which lets them copy other repoid Dna and transform into them, this copy chip elts them work on the moon (?) and they get there through the orbital elevator Jacob lumine is a new generation reploid and he uses Sigma and ends up killing sigma for good and trying to usher in a new era of reploids, playing the role of shiva and destroying the old reploids and the humans so that the new generation reploids could create a new, more evolved society
the new generation reploids have the ability to go maverick at will
i don't know what the fuck that means because that is stupid, before zero normal reploids did that too

the whole thing is about evolution really

also at the end of X6 a scene from the future is shown in which zero puts himself in a capsule to purge himself of the virus

Supposedly how it all ties in is that the Mavericks are purged of their desire to kill humans by the creation of the Mother Elf (Elves essentially being some sort of personified computery thingies).

However, Dr Weil "curses" her, whatever that means, and gets the means to control ALL reploids, and he reactivates Zero's lifeless body and gives it giant, massively destructive outer shell to make it live up to its true potential (The reason he takes orders is supposedly because that is how Dr Wily designed him to be).

Someone makes Zero a new body, adds Zero's consciousness, now free of the EVIL WILY PROGRAMING or something, and he and X do some sort of all out war that results in the death of 90% of reploids and 60% of humans or something like that. They lock up Omega (Zero's body and armor) and Weil after GIVING HIM A ROBOT BODY THAT REGENERATES AND IS EFFECTIVELY IMMORTAL and launching them into space, which does jack shit because they apparently can make themselves fall down from space.

Zero goes back to sleep in his new body, X gets emo and locks the Dark Elf (formerly mother elf) in his body, Ciel(?) makes a copy of X who goes crazy helping humans and thus kills Reploids indiscriminantly.

It was only Omega that was launched into space in the ship, that was an official decision

Weil's punishment, which was his regenerative body, was done by an angry group of humans who wished to force him into a life of eternal pain
Weil was then banished from Neo Arcadia and thrust into the lifeless world that existed outside of Neo Arcadia, as a result of the events of X5

I believe it was Weil that caused the ship to crash at hte beggining of Z3


fun fact: in japan his name is Dr.Vile but they changed it because in the US we already have a Vile, who was originally named "Vava"

Also, I think you're right about Weil, I suddenly remember his Z4 dialouge. Also, despite the fact that I made a big deal out of the fact that Weil's punishment made him incredibly dangerous, I should also point out that some sources point out the fact that the ones who gave Weil his sentence were built by him, and thus he was able to manipulate their actions to a degree and as a result he was also able to control them as bosses come Z3.
