That's what I thought. Although Miyamoto has been known to insert little things here and there in other people's games, I know he did not create anything for Metroid.

There is a certain sweetness I can taste as this is the only place I know of which hasn't blatantly flamed Metroid: Other M (in some cases, for simply being a Metroid Game, in others, for Not being Halo...)

I was extravagantly excited for it when I first viewed the trailer. Verily I would've wept if I weren't so masculine. This may be elements of fanboyism in me as I have played and finished every Metroid game Except the original on NES, heaven help me I just cannot seem to do it, I lack the patience to survive without diagonal or downwards aiming.

The title I would guess is just a code-name.

To me, the trailer is an enormous tease, goading us with glimpses of Metroid's storyline from here and there. From looking at the gameplay elements, I am rather giddy that the game may perhaps add the agility which Samus miraculously lost in the Prime series. I have no objections to Samus throwing and abusing her opponents in whatever manner she does in combat. War is hell, remember, and I am sure Samus is able to do more than just shoot a beam cannon at her enemies. I know I'd certainly relish the pleasure of tackling a space pirate and executing him in front of his comrads. Perhaps its just me.

However the past has taught me many things, including that you only know what is in a game once it is released. So until then, I don't really care to create an image of what Metroid: Other M is going to be when I eventually play it.

If anything, it would make more sense for other people to flame MSurpriseM for not being a Metroid game, but we don't have enough info to justify any such argument.

But I agree that I wanna play the game before seriously judging it.

http://metroid.jp/ has updated.

"A dream. It's as if I was watching a playback of a tragedy that really happened." (According to the Metroid Database)

... I wonder if that's Samus speaking. This plot is getting curiouser and curiouser...

Edit: I cannot help but feel insulted by that comment.
It's hard to be the voice of reason, when the voices in your mind are at juxtaposition.

Hm I'm wondering if its one of those stories that happens but not really. Eh I'm bad at explaining these things but I think you get what I mean.

Hm, was that not what you and Vipes were discussing? Do you feel that's an acceptable look to have?

Yeah, it was. I was essentially saying that Samus is a totally boring character, while Giz was saying that she isn't.
I hope that this game will actually make her likable to people like me who think she's boring.

i wasn't really saying she wasn't a "boring" character or couldn't easily be construed that way
I was saying that she is not a conventional character

the entire point is that she is "mysterious", that she is subtle, that she is not emotive and that she is introverted - that she is supposed to be an avatar, an extension of your character (save for a few basic character-specific motivations which are non-disruptive) not a character in and of her own right.

from the very beginning the series was about subtlety - introversion, "loneliness"; with Other M (and to a lesser extent mp3 and even lesser extent mp2) this is being replaced by a horrendously inappropriate bombasticness which takes apart the key thing that has made Metroid "Metroid" and replaces it with something much more befitting of "your average action game".

It's still a Metroid game. I've always seen Metroid (and most nintendo properties) as nothing but wasted opportunities, Metroid could be an amazing, grandiose space opera of epic proportions. Instead, it is widely games spent in isolation from one of the most interesting universe' in videogames.

While many people love games to have an epic story like that, the large group of people that like games played in isolation the entire time would be displeased. And rightfully so considering the Metroid series has been like that since the beginning.

Its like what's been done with Sonic in a way. Many people began to dislike the series when Sega tried to take it in new directions and added in voice acting and put it in 3d for example.

I think it will probably be a good game either way, but from what I've seen fans of classic Metroid gameplay and storytelling will probably be disappointed.

Quote:Metroid could be an amazing, grandiose space opera of epic proportions.
and it isn't, and never was, and that was intentional

if you want a grandiose space opera of epic proportions than look at literally countless other titles - trying to change that which is actually different simply because you fail to appreciate it is downright ignorant

there is only one "Metroid", but that's not going to last for long - soon enough there shall be no metroid, because the powers that be have seen it fit to completely dismantle what made metroid unique and "special" and slowly replace it with nothing but disgusting absurdity after absurdity.

Likely only by name.
