I think his eyes should be tightly squeezed, but of the two, the wide eyes is better

I think wide eyes.
As for Aura, I don't think so. The wide eyes give a more comical, cartoony feel to Sukapon, and that's also what he did in the game Joy Mech Fight.

So uh...
Sukapon originally had, quite literally, 8 sprites or so. Are we going to do something like that too or are we gonna make him a little more detailed? Also, did a facing towards us head. A quick edit and I dunno if it's good enough.

we should probably put more life into the animations than the original game, tossing in some rotations and stuff would make his moves look way more aesthetically pleasing and less of a clusterfuck

Definitely. His old game made him look worse than Mr Game & Watch.
Nothing against G&W, but he was deliberately designed with bad animations
