I see it more as learning a move to make it 'combat effective'. It forgets the best way to use it in going for the weak points or what have you.

I'd have two mareeps and I'd be hugging them all day long because I'm too much of a wimp to go and adventure myself on pokemon journeys and stuff :C

but then someday one of those two evolves into a big ampharos and I'd ride him to all places c:

Eventually I'd catch a Poliwhirl and my parents would buy me a Vulpix for my birthday. I'd have a pool just for my Poliwhirl!
