Well, I have made my decision. I have decided to begin work on the hardest rips ever in this game. it's like trying to get all the parts of a japanese puzzle box and solving it. Skyboxes. Each time I finish one, I will put a copy here. Once I've finished all ten, I will put them in a sheet. Each one has 64 peices, so don't expect them to come quickly. Here's the first:

Shouldn't you finish ripping the complete set first, then edit your first post? People will be posting in this thread, and 64 individual images may be to big.
@CeeY - He said there were ten backgrounds to be ripped, each composed of 64 images, probably some 2-4 pixels each in height if I know my N64 textures. Ten images for one post, especially of similar size to the one already there, is not unreasonable.
On that note, that one background you've ripped is freakin' astounding, booscaster; it must've taken a heck of a lot of work to piece that together so flawlessly. Thanked by: booscaster

Thx, jdaster! And actually, SM64 was a rather unusual game in the fact that each sky is made up of 32x32 pixel squares instead of long strips. Lucky for me, squares are easier to piece together seamlessly. An easy trick for this game's backgrounds is to zoom in. Each square has the same edge pixels as the squares touching it, so a square that fits will create a line of 2 pixels of the same color.

Oy, my head! this one was hard because many of the tiles look the same, with a few differences I used to piece them together. here it is:

You've got quite the skills there! But which level has this background?

That background shows up in whomp's fortress, rainbow ride, and over the rainbow. I think that's all.
Edit:Wait, it's also in tower of the wing cap (05-03-2010, 01:12 PM)booscaster Wrote: each sky is made up of 32x32 pixel squares instead of long stripsOh, that should indeed be easier then. I just recall trying to rip Mario Kart 64's title screen, only to find out it was composed of a ton of 2- or 4-pixel tall strips. ;P Great job on the WF/RR/OtR sky, by the way. Thanked by: booscaster

you asked a similiar question earlier in the forum, but I don't blame you for being a little repetitive. I finished the next skybox. If you get cold looking at cold pictures, look away now! here it is:
