Anyways, here's your explanation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial_anti-aliasing
http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/shading.html
http://www.lea-test.fi/en/vistests/instr...trast.html
If that's too complicated, we always have Metaru with those easy tutorials he finds, and some of us would be okay explaining those things for you.

Can you explain a simple version of all that, it makes smoke come from my head lol

I never make some custom sprite sheet, but just look some examples on this website, why need its? But sure you don't copy, and recoloring!
The shading is just like that:
| S
| |
S is shading, it's the position of the sun, what makes shade your texture, never put other place your shade...
Shade it's most like shadow, but with some effects...

If you don't know about those stuff, sorry, but it's the only possible...
Also, did you tried sometime use Paint.net, or Gimp for make sprites?
I recomend paint.net, it's free, it's easy too! Try it, don't get stick on MS paint!
I know what your are saying about the sun "lightsource". MS paint is the better and more simplistic program capable of many things, ideal for spriting.

Yes, I have a bad english sorry!
Well, I make every rip from games on paint.net! But paint I have heard lots of comments for spriting...
CeeY, there are some professional program for that? I love that challanging programs!

That's is not shading, you just put an beautifully sun! See the custom sprites please... It will help you!
LOL, its not the sun I'm spriting! Its just a lightsource to explain the shading on the GOOMBA! The sun is not supposed to look good. LOL

Don't look, compare with your old one, it's the same, but with a sun...
Did you are still working on the shading?
Also sprite sheets it's not just 1 sprite.
I am going to perfect the standing sprite before I move on.

I somehow believe the sun coincidentally fit with your lightsource, you meant to pixel a sun.

The sun is the lightsource.

Who cares, this is not a topic about your rep. This is a topic about your Goomba sprites and what needs to be fixed.

Pillow Shading is when you go outlining the darkest shade to the brightest, which is generally: Shading just for shading.
Shades are used to show curvature in a sprite. Use shading to show bumps/Shapes that are on the object, or else it means that object is flat. Add highlights to also give a sense of shape on a sprite. Limit yourself to colors more, you used an unnecessary 2 shades of brown. Goomba's usually have uni-brows and bigger eyes than that, but that might just be you giving him a scared expression. Use A.A.: Anti-Aliasing is when you use darker shades around the edges of the object to give it a sense of smoothness. A.A. doesn't neccessarilly have to be on the outside of a sprite, in fact, its recommended to be used more on the inside.Color contrast is how darker or lighter a shade is compared to another. It makes shading much more noticeable, which also leads to making your light-source more noticeable.

This is an edit of your sprite with all the fixes stated above, do not use it. Its just an example to help give you a better image:

you don't seem to comprehend it's illegal for kids under 13 to be online without parental consent.
