instead take jarjar's work, zoom it, analyze it, and try to learn from it as much as you can.

dunno how far in you are but i gave it a quick edit. the face could use a bit more definition and the shades seem too close together. i made the second lightest shade a bit pinker to give it more lifelike feeling and i added some depth into certain spots. i also made the eye a bit thinner to give it a less cartoony and more fierce look.

well, the point of an edit is to show how you can improve it. i think you should fix it up yourself to improve it on your own, using my edit as an example

keep in mind to;
-alter the colours a bit to be less dull and dirt water-y
-add more definition to the face, bring out the cheek bone, stern out that brow, make the scar blend more, and so on
-the body could be temporary but i recommend making the pose something more natural like one hand in his pocket and the other holding the cigarette.

i really like what you have so far though. im rooting for you!

Gave him more of an aged look to the face. Added some wrinkles/dark areas and looked at a picture of my dad for some reference. (He looks like the guy, but without the beard) Still gotta fix up the neck, ear and beret.
Also, I'm planning for one hand to be in his pocket, and the other holding a cigarette case
