I can't vouch for Dex here, but I know that I personally think Zac's looked more interesting and had a more *original* (i guess) concept than yours even as a huge sketch

your entry was literally just shin chan and co standing there in wide pixel
you're not automatically going to move on just because your opponent didn't finish, there's more that gets taken into account when picking a 'winner' for each match
