Origins of Pokemon
#16
Mew was never considered to be God, just a Pokemon with DNA that connects to all the other Pokemon. Mew wasn't "God", she wasn't referred to as a mythological Pokemon as Pokedex entries acknowledge its existence, while all of Arceus's entries start with "It is said" or "In Sinnoh Legends".

Also:
"Although Mew is considered the ancestor of all Pokémon, Arceus is said to be the first of all Pokémon."

Mew is simply the ancestor, Arceus is "God".

@Koopaul: Well a serpentine Origin Forme design w/Pokedex entries that said it was banished for its bad behavior kinda just threw me in the direction d:, I forgot Arceus was Chinese mythology.

I thinks it's possible that Kyogre takes inspiration from Kumugwe, the Kwakwaka'wakw god of the sea.

"On the Origin of Species"

The article about Bronzor/Bronzong is actually pretty interesting (though I still hate the pokemon for appearing so often.)

Nidoking's origin:

1st came the cosmos.

Before that there was Nidoking.

Okay, so it's actual origin is some kind of poisonous-lunar-powered-rabbit-gorilla-porcupine-dragon-thing who can inexplicably breathe fire, conduct electricity, summon ice storms and reshape the very foundation of the earth's crust with a good earthquake (well most of these abilities are gained by the tampering of mankind, so I'll give them that). Really though, I think the game was really about Nidoking this whole time. I mean, Nidorino appears in the original opening, he was obviously supposed to be the main character instead of Red.

To top all that off, the developers felt so intimidated by his omnipresence that they were forced to thrust in a female version because there was no way that a pokemon so awesome wasn't pimpin' 24/7. I mean, there's gotta be SOME reason the Chinese call him Ní Duō Wáng.

Nidoking! Use Pimpin' Backhand!
It's Super Effective!

"Pikachu"

Pika- is a small mammal belonging to the Ochotonidae family in Japan.
Kind of describes Pikachu being the small mouse poke'mon.
