Ripping Animations and Sprites from GBC games?

I'm really new to ripping sprites, and I'm working on a project that requires sprites and animations from Pokemon G/S/C. Rather than requesting some does it for me, I'd like for someone to help me learn how to do it. Does anyone know of a tutorial, tools or anything helpful for me to be able to do this?

Not really, what I'm trying to rip are the animated water tiles, and door tiles.
