TSR PokeDex Project
I don't see why. The goal was to make the shrimp look tough and fast and the crab to look slow and high in defenses, which imo looks like the case.

Also, it makes even more sense since you get the shrimp by having the prevo hold the Red Scarf which boosts coolness, so it's actually pretty fitting that he'd have a cooler more detailed design.

Either way I can/probably will touch the crab up a bit, but I'd rather keep the shrimp a bit above him in coolness as a nod to his Red Scarf.

I don't know if anyone's come up with this idea already, but there should be an opossum Pokemon that has an ability or signature move that allows it to feign death fainting

This is a cool idea, but how would it work? Like would the opossum faint like normal and you'd send out a new Pokemon, but he then returns to your party with half HP or something? This could cause problems though, because if the opossum only had like 1 HP to begin with and then was killed, he'd be gaining health. So maybe not going back to half, maybe only like 25% or something, and the move only activates if its a one hit KO

yeah, I was thinking about how it would work and there are a lot of different directions you could take it. I like the 'only activates if it's an OHKO' idea.
Another idea I had is that it pretends to faint whenever you switch out, or that it automatically plays possum whenever it's health drops below a certain point

I didn't read that part. I think it would be better if it was a stat evolution like Tyrogue.

I don't want one evolution to be more popular than the other. And everyone will prefer the pistol shrimp compared to the crab.

Well, the red scarf is meant to work like how Rhydon's evolution can be seen wearing the item it uses to evolve.

Now, if we think of an item for the crab to have to have to evolve, then I could work it into the design.

Another option, along with a design change, would be to give the crab a more favorable ability. Either way I'll look up some pictures of the undersea vents and try to find some plant life and what not that may grow near them.

EDIT- Mkay, I'm thinking the crab could evolve after holding the Rocky Helmet, and in doing so he obtains the Rough Skin ability, or some variation of it. Either way i'm thinking I'll add some coral and plant life and what not to him, although in the end he needs to have a full over solid heavy structure.

Oh, I kinda like the idea of the shrimp having an attack called Quick Draw which hits the opponent with 2 fire balls from his claws and it has a chance of boosting his speed and accuracy.

EDIT2- Also, now that I think about it, what he'll lack in fancy and cool designs, he'll more than make up for with an interesting moveset. If he's covered in plants, a rock shell, and is spewing sulfur, that means he can use Rock (probably Ground) Grass, Fire, Water, and Poison where as the shrimp would most likely use Fire, Water, and Normal moves, with the obvious little ice more and what not here and there. But yeah, either way his attributes will be less visable compared to the shrimps.

But people are really biased and will often choose looks over power.

Also I don't want to worry about HOW it evolves right now. Game mechanics are the least of our worries. This project is about designing Pokemon so looks count.

But not every pokemon looks amazing. If you try to make them all look flashy and cool and what not, then it's not really even a pokemon project as you'd be skipping out on an aspect of pokemon design. Every single gen has a few basic pokemon that are just kinda there. The same holds true with split evos. Look at Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. On one side you have a stylish fighter based on boxing with lots of details, on the other you have... a potato man with spring legs. My point is that, if this is meant to be a realistic pokemon project, you can't try to make everything super flashing and amazing looking when the fact remains that not all real pokemon are like that.

Either way, I did edit the crab a bit but he's probably not getting any more detailed than this since he's already on the verge of being over cluttered as is.

I based the small plants on hims off of these irl vent plants (I think they are plants, the website said they were), but they are actually orange, which make it hard to tell that they are plants and not tiny extra claws, so I recolored them.

EDIT-
Honestly, I think this would be the base design:
Just by looking at it you get the idea that it would be high in defenses, but probably slow. Also, who really cares if people pick with bias? How does that matter at all? More than enough people play with enough competitiveness to where they could competently pick between offensive and defensive without looks being the only deciding factor.

They're not plants, they're Tube worms! :U YOU ARE SMARTER NOW.

Honestly, I kinda thought that was the case as I remembered seeing something about them on the Discovery Channel years ago, but I wasn't sure if I was remembering it correctly, but that was another factor in why I made them green as it not only made them look more like a basic plant, but it also made them less comparable to the actual base for the design, which in this case seems like a good move.

i personally think the shrimp looks a bit silly. i'd probably make the crab's legs smaller, though; emphasize its heaviness.

Yeah, I was actually trying to make him look a bit different, especially with the hat (originally he was bald but that looked awful so I made a hat shaped exoskeleton plate), but I was kinda trying to go for what the 1st gen did often, and thats to randomly give pokemon clothes. Machoke/champ, Hitmonchan, Jynx, and probably more that I'm not thinking of randomly had clothing, so I figured something as simple as a hat wouldn't be too far out of the realm or possibilities.

As for the legs, I'll either make them smaller, or bent down more to show that the weight would event be pushing on him (sorry if I didn't explain that well.)

My shot at the Jack-o-lantern Pokémon

Japumkin (Jack+Pumpkin)
Squash Pokémon
Type: Grass/Ghost

Planted near graves to ward off evil spirits, it became possessed and manifested this form.

Apoquash (Apocalypse+Squash)
Headless Pokémon
Type: Grass/Ghost

In folklore, this Pokémon was said to ride a Rapidash, kidnapping people lost in the woods.

Japumkin evolves into Apoquash at level 50 (at least at very high level)
Apoquash is based on the headless horseman, though it also resembles a scary, hollow tree.
