Pokémon Platform [Charmander Anim.]

The Factory has created another Pokémon...

Weedle:

And was working on the other one:

Updated the List:

But there is a non-finished task registered:
Work more on the shading to make it convey volume more effectively.

Weedle's head looks flat. The shading should be rounder. Right now that dark shade looks pretty straight and parallel to the middle shade. Also concerning the flatness, the back of the head's lineart could be more curvaceous as well.

The spike also seems pretty flat and lacks contrast in the shades. Don't be afraid with adding contrast to those whites. It also seems a bit too symmetrically placed and drawn on the head. Perhaps move it forward a little?

I look forward to more. =)

If I'm making Pre-evolutions, Which one could be the next one? ;D

These are pretty good, a slight bit above average. Incoming compliment sandwich.

I'd like to posit that Squirtle's head appears to be directly pasted on the top of his body (in a 2D plane), or rather the head overlaps his shell and even his own arm. In the current view, the arm and part of the shell should be visible in front of his face. Also, if I remember correctly, the white "rim" of Squirtle's shell circles around his arms and legs, though that is nit picking.

Bulbasaur also appears to have some sort of growth on his back, and I'm not talking about his bulb. The portion between the back of his head and the front of his bulb makes him look like Quasimodo.

Overall your colors are very "vanilla." Try deviating from the MS Paint defaults and making your own colors. I know you (probably) made the different shades and what not, but color picking is a lot more than just double clicking your base color and shifting the slider down a few notches. Try making your shades and highlights a different hue as well as tone.

Overall though, it's rare to see someone who can nail outlines like you have without any form of prior C+C. Refreshing sprites, and done in a style Pokemon is usually not depicted in.

EDIT: There are numerous other faults I see, but don't worry about them now. I can help you with that if/once you fix what I mentioned above. Smile

Is it "Nit Picking" yet?:

I didn't see too much Quasimodo on it, it's a Toad Pokémon, so it's a bit Fatty:

Testing Another Shading, For Sure.

I don't do that, I'm not a Noob, Man. I use good colors, I don't use MS Paint Defaults Tongue
Maybe my Sprite's Colors are Vanilla, but that is because I don't like Pale Colors,
And yes, those Sprites have some issues, but that's another thing.

unless that charmander is being held by its head in the air, each step should move the rest of the body upwards.

good ol hulk is exagerated and overacted enough to make it clear.

when walking, one normally uses its entire body to optimize the energy comsumption. you swing your shoulders so the innertia can propel the oposite leg foward easily, and also allowes the muscles to blend in a more natural way. of course, this movement is usually way more subtle than what hulk is doing, but in hulk's case its done that way to emphasize and put even more dinamism on the animation. in your case it doesnt need to be that exagerated(unless your charmander suddenly grows its body mass and becomes a monster).
all you need to do now is to simply synchronize the whole body's moment to each step. its sounds complicated, but its actually a way more reasonable and credible animation than simply switching bodyparts here and there.
ALSO almost forgot:

charmanders, as the lizards they are, are based on dinosaurs. specifically on a more simplified version of a t-rex. therefore
[Image: 42W93.png]

also i dont really like the way you're drawing these pokemon's sideviews. they are not really working as profiles, and adding that leg in the background just make them look as if they weretrying to skate rather than being on a idle stance.

Could I be taught from some expert? you make it sound soo easy heheh

Quote:I just get soo depressed when I read "I don't like it" "I don't like the way you draw your sprites" or something like that,

But then I get so happy when I see they're interested in my work, and they want me to improve, so I get full of energy =)

Well, no matter how many things I have to pass, I'm just starting, so let's keep it up!

First I gotta change the style, you're right, I'm making it look like if they're gonna skate or something,

Here, some edits:
[Image: Charmanderstandleft-42.png][Image: Bulbasaurstandleft-63.png]
I gotta try the animation later, but first I want to know if the Sprites are okay.

How about some better AA? I made a quick edit of the sprite with some black outlines, a bit more contrats in the palette, some deeper shading and some small changes at the arm and the tail.

Well, it seems a lot like CO2's edit O_o

I did mine:
??

Note: Your edit has too much Shading in the mouth, seems like he was eating some chocolate cake.
Note 2: And it has too much colors, 17 for a sprite than has to have from 10-12.

The reason why there are more colors is because I gave the sprite more depth. Which in my opinion makes the sprite smoother. And no, it's not a edit from CO2, it's from your original sprite. But the tail is from his edit.
Thanked by:
#59
Okay, the tail was why I thought that :/

But the sprite can't have too much colors, I think that would be for the other Pokemon Sprites, from the official games.

Anyways, thanks for taking your time to help me with it =)

So you are going for the color amount from the sprites from the official games? I would say go fully custom, since it gets more original.
