I actually love oblivion to death. Sure the combat isn't overly complex and could do with some duel wielding and spell mixing(Which apparently skyrim is supposed to do). However after beating the game, you should've been able to make a new file and play as a Dremora if you wanted too Sad I wanted that to be a thing....

I still loved practically everything about it though minus the cure for vampirism just no that was awful.

It's not that it's not complex. It's just bad. It looks like your waving a sword around like your having some kind of fit. It isn't combat, it's just, well - terrible.
Skyrim looks promising, so I will try it - but if the melee (apparently that's not a word...) combat isn't decent then it can go smeg itself.

You don't have to play in a First Person view... if that really bugs you, you can switch to a third person view.

You're right about the combat being unsatisfying. If you mute the sound there's not really any indication that you're hitting anything; there's no animation or anything. In third person it's sort of okay, if flailing, but it's still only your character that's (awkwardly) animated.
I know it's a buzzword that's used all over the place, but it's just not visceral enough. You don't feel like you're fighting; it breaks suspension of disbelief because you're aware that you're playing a game, because you're aware that your character's just sort of flailing randomly and your opponent eventually seems to die of excitement rather than because you've inflicted any wounds.
That probably sounds like I'm just being all GRAR GRAR BUCKETS OF GOOOOORE or something
but it's not that, there's just very little indication that you're hitting, so it feels very stilted. Since the gameworld and characters are designed to be reasonably convincing (I mean, within reason, they're sodding elves and catpeople after all), it's kind of jarring when your fights remind you "this is a game".

the game is hard in all the wrong ways and easy when it should be challenging- you're more likely to die by standing on a slightly slanted edge and sliding off into infinity then to die by a boss
I think worse of all though is the music, which unlike many of the other flaws can't be summed up to technological limitations of the time
the slide theme has to be my least favorite song ever in a video game, and it somehow makes its way into every level and is played constantly on the 2 most frustrating and time consuming levels of the game
the whole thing might have 2 good songs, but even that's a stretch

the remake is fun though

Never been to this topic yet because I wasn't here but wow. Can't even believe the first page. Dislike for Mischief Makers, Tales Of Symphonia, Ocarina Of Time, Twilight Princess, Bomberman 64, Glover and fucking Super Mario 64?

What the fuck is this? This has to be the topic of games that you thought were mind blowing, cause all of those games were awesome.

Super Mario 64 only having 2 good songs? Wow, three at the least haha. Dire Dire Dock, man that shit gets me every time.

Yes, it was.

But...I'd like to play one of the earlier vesions of TP, you know, before they delayed it for years and changed so much of the content. The final game was just so damn unimpressive for the most part.

Twilight Princess was far from bad, I don't see how people can hate it. It's one of my favorite Zelda games.

the entire game itself could easily be characterized by the term "favors for retards"; the entirety of the game is a long stream of endless fetch quests which were never fun to begin with, filled with an unpalatable amount of bullshit: carrying water jugs across a field for 1/5th of a heart, block puzzles which serve only as unintelligent and meaningless obstructions, the entire opening sequence in town, the list goes on and on and on. its like the whole game is like the quest to get the big goron sword over and over and over again. at least in some of the other games, the obstructions were made interesting by the existence of interesting items, or by somewhat more thoughtful design; but that isn't the case here. the items in twilight princess are largely a joke.

they actually had to try and convince you there was legitimately more content than there was by giving you doubles of existing items, usually with very little actual benefit. the water bombs can blow up underwater. the double clawshot lets you hookshot two grapple points! thats almost as unforgivable as the master shot.

i mean really. they're just keys. it isn't like the grappling beam from super metroid, which had multiple uses and was actually entertaining to use, or the ice beam, which was equally viable as an effective weapon and as one of many potential means of bridging gaps.

Well, it wasn't terrible, but it certianly wasn't excellent or even great, especially when compared to something like Majora's Mask.

Pretty much, only you are left unrewarded for the entire game. When I played the game I kept waiting for something, anything, to strike me as incredible, but was left unsatisfied. Some of the boss fights were pretty cool, and the game looked very nice but for what could have been the game of the decade, "pretty cool" just wasn't enough.

Also, there were a couple of things in the game which were just flat-out, undisguised wasted potential. For example, when you kill Stallord, he seemingly yields the sword Zant used to re-animate him, only for it to dissipate and be replaced by just another heart container. It would have been a good substitute for the Biggoron sword, so why on earth was this denied to the player?

Edit; also, the final Hyrule Castle dungeon was so obviously rushed, and devoid of intelligent design. Certianly not good enough for a final dungeon.
