If you've never played a Monster Rancher game I'd give MR2 a shot, it has quite a lot of depth for a series that's essentially a glorified Tamagotchi.

the first Digimon World was quite good, too.

I mainly played JRPGs and monster-raising games back in the PS1 days, so i can't be of much help, sorry.

everybody took most of what i was going to say...damn it.

hmm...brave fencer mushashi is gold; still have the original from when i was like 5. silent hill is good if you like horror games; same with clock tower 1 and 2 though i only watch ppl play them on YT; can't do it otherwise lol. Tenchu 2 birth of the Stealth Assassins is def recommended, moreso than 1 since it improves on everything but music, as most of the game is silent except for boss battles.../i like sui9koden cause of its pokemon like aspect of recruiting ppl but you said no JRPGs and this one is tedious but fun. Ape Escape is another great title, though i think you need dualshock with the analog pads to play it. Tomba is a cool platformer and its sequel is okay, havent played enough of it to judge that one yet. Tomb Raider series is another one i can think of....

Outside of that, those are the only non-JRPG games i can think of. any specific genres or dates? or are you just looking for 90s gems?

Mostly mid- to late-90's gems. I've got a soft spot for early 3D games.

I'd still recommend the first Tenchu game though. It's really freakin' fun.

True; the music is just gorgeous...lvl 8, 1, and 5 stand out for me.
