I was referred to this thread in one I myself had created, so... here I am.

I've got a question about how to use tools such as Console Tool, and was told you were the go-to guy to ask. Specifically, I'm trying to extract Fonts, Sprites, and Tiles (I think - though they could just be layered sprites) from Golden Sun: Dark Dawn for the NDS. I've fiddled with the programs, but so far all I've gotten it to be able to do is view hex data and extract compressed DAT and BIN files... so apparently, I'm doing something wrong. Got any tips or suggestions for me?

I don't want someone else to just do this for me - I'm trying to learn to do it myself, so advice is much preferred over delivering the content I'm trying to get.

Edit: Apparently, there's also a CHR file, which appears to be the text font, one of the things I'm looking for... but ways to convert this to a usable font file so far have eluded me...

Oh, dear... in that case, it appears as though I may have hit a wall then. Models and sounds aren't what I need for the project I'm doing, and I've been trying to find the font for nearly half a year now... I can see what you're talking about in the Tinke program. Are they still updating that program, or... am I pretty much SoL here?

I'll see about contacting those two members to find out what they did, and to get some advice from them. Thanks for your assistance in the matter...

MagicMaker has already ripped quite a bit from the game and probably knows how to view the files, and Barubary is a contributor to the dsdecmp program that I linked to, which has a specific plugin for Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. With the knowledge that both have of the game, you should be able to get an ample amount of progress.

Also, what is in the texture files seem to be anything from map/dungeon textures to possibly menu icons, so it wouldn't hurt to skim through a couple just in case. I'll go through some of them and if I find anything worth mentioning I'll be sure to PM you.

As far as the font goes, the .chr file or the files in the "font" folder probably have the font in there, it's just a matter of viewing them.

Well yeah, we both worked on the Characters sheet so we agreed to post it both.

@RoleOfGSHC: Have you had a go with ripping the fonts with an emulator? If Tinke is giving you problems then it might be easier to do with with the "layer-disabling-take-screenshots" method. Or are you looking to get stuff that can't be found in the game (e.g. unused sprites)?
